Silly post to suggest smith as finished. Will be elevated as soon as this week,it amazes me what some of you guys post on here,do you actually go to any ants games.Smiths delivery has improved so much this season, he has his body spot on,and his pace is much better.Pagan has said that he will play or are your ears painted on.Was at team selection last week as was reported by fevola,so do you really think he is on the outer.He is tough at the ball doesnt go to ground like bentick, can mark overhead unlike bentick and can kick 50 metres unlike bentick.It all points to smith taking benticks spot, you can all jump on me for my opinions, but you know that i am right.

I don't know about taking Bentick's spot, but he looked smooth enough on Sunday for the two quarters I got to see. I also liked Jackson. I'd be happy if we promoted both. What have we got to lose?kickgoals said:

he is far from finished. Will either be elevated or re-rookied for next year. Has shown enough, albeit inconsistently, that he can contribute to the club in the long term.

This is what Pagan did say (and as you can see he has said that he would like to play a few before the end of the year but he can not play them all and Smith is down the list I think
Smith is a good VFL player
Carlton coach Denis Pagan says rookie-list players Jesse Smith, Craig Flint and Ryan Jackson are getting closer to senior selection although he has not put a timeframe on when any of the trio will be elevated to make their AFL debut.
"Jesse Smith and Craig Flint are pretty close to it, but they just haven't done quite enough to get a game and we certainly won't put them on until they're ready to play," Pagan said on Wednesday at MC Labour Park.
"(Jackson) had such a terrific game on the weekend with a 27-possession game in the VFL and he certainly comes under consideration.
"He (Jackson) probably hasn't played the whole year in the VFL - he played a couple of games in the VFL reserves - but he certainly shows something and it's not beyond the realms of possibility at one stage that he might get a chance too."
Pagan was also pleased with the progress of another rookie-listed player, Aisake O'hAilpin, the younger brother of Setanta who played his first senior VFL match last weekend.
"He went OK. We were pleased with that. It's been a real long-shot exercise, but we didn't have any alternative at the time," Pagan said.
"Setanta played in the seniors and made a good fist of it up at the Gabba last week and Aisake played with our VFL team against Sandringham so it was a positive weekend for the O'hAilpin boys."
Another emerging Blue, Adam Hartlett, who has been riddled by hamstring problems this season, played his first match since the pre-season competition when he lined up for the Northern Bullants seconds in the VFL last weekend.
"He played a half in the seconds and we'll probably give him a full game in the seconds and then play in the senior VFL and take it from there," Pagan said.
"You'd like to play Adam Hartlett before the year's out and Paul Bower. Both are tall defenders and have done pretty well until they were injured and Adam played in our National Bank pre-season game against the Cats and did pretty well on Nathan Ablett.

Ever since his days at the Calder Cannons i have been a fan of Jesse Smith. I think he is a ball magnet and should be given a go. Recruiters and coaches all said Chad Fletcher didn't have enough pace and now is an All-Australian in arguably the best midfield in the comp.
Showed that in the TAC Cup Grand Final a few years ago, dead set dominated that game to win the best on ground medal.no. 4 said:

IMO needs to be given more time, perhaps elevated off the rookie list, and given a senior game to show what he can do. I didn't know he was BOG in a TAC grand final a few years ago. Must have ability, and should be perservered with?
