whats wrong with the statement? by the end of the year he was getting tagged as a second year player, and he was still going alright, once he gets proper support the likes of Pendlebury+Selwood has, i think he will be up there.
Jones is clearly a good player ; I think he's maybe been rated by some as better than he is, just because he was one of the few goers in Melb's 07 team. But when you say he's AA material, just stop & think : how many midfielders would be in the queue ahead of him ? Lots.

I find it funny how he is the 'complete package' when he hasn't even played 50 games, or played prolonged stints in the middle.

For me he'll be a very good HBF, but not this gamebreaker in the middle that North fans are touting him as. If you watch the final against the Hawks it wasn't lke he was busting packs in the middle and getting it out, the majority of his possessions were running out in space. He did not play in the centre that game, so don't try and tell yourself he did.

Grant Birchall has done more so far in his career, and he has played one less year than Smith of AFL.

Smith obviously has great pace, skills and courage, but don't start this 'Oh he'll be a top 10 in the competition' crap when he hasn't even played 50 games, or strung some consistently very good games together.

Given up on Wells then?

This is usually the time of year we get the "Wells is the best young player in the competition" and "Wells 4 the brownlow" threads from Roos supporters.

I guess they finally have another semi decent young player to pin their hopes on.

Whereas the Unlisted fans pin their hopes on.....................?

I never said anything about Jones you idiot. Why the hell are you raving on about his brilliant games? That was one example anyway, and it is a great sign that Smith can stand up in big games. Smith and Jones both averaged 17 disposals this year, "CLEARLY"? - I don't think so, especially considering Smith has much better disposal and much more class. Was responding to CaptainDavey saying its a fair call to rate Higgins above Smith. But tell me what side would take Higgins over Smith?
Work out what I'm talking about before responding next time.

I bet you said the same thing about Daniel Wells judging by your name. Where is he now? One of the more over rated players in the league.

i would say that probs 15 out of the 16 teams in the comp would take higgins over smith with that 1 leftover being fremantle coz theyre just hopeless when it comes to everything involving player recruiting.

its all good to compare smiths class and disposal to jones', but i think youve lost sight that smith is doing it all off a half back in space whereas jones is doing it all in the heart of midfield under pressure from the best players in the game.

oh and if you want u can compare smiths class and disposal to higgins oh and while youre at it compare their goal kicking records and accuracy too:eek:. smith isnt even top 10 young players in the comp.

Does that include the year that Smith missed with a busted foot?

And while we are at it lets compare Darren Glass and Matthew Lloyd using the same criteria.

I've never understood the wraps on Jesse Smith. To me he looks like he is goign to fall over whenever he goes to kick the ball. He was in my dreamteam because I was swayed by all the hype...yet there were too many games where he would play 100% game time and end up with 10-16 disposals..which is not good enough considering he is older than all of the other draftees and is in a sweeping position where stats are easier to get.

Selwood or Pendlebury are the best..I cant split them, then Jones, then Higgins and Smith is a fair bit of that. Higgins kicking bags of 5 is alot more promising than any of Smiths games.

First game Smith played a decent amount of it in the guts = B.O.G. Was only in front of the odd 70,000 in an elimination semi, no big deal i guess.

If you expect a player like Smith to be busting packs you are a moron. That isn't his job, he plays HIS role well, which is probably what we're talking about. And the first time he did play prolonged stints in the middle, he won B.O.G, as we keep telling you. To say he wasn't in the guts that game proves ignorance, when he plays consistently in the midfield next year, you will see it.

I thought he played in the middle against the Hawks?
Please show evidence he actually played well in the MIDFIELD. He played his best footy off the HBF that night. I don't think he'd dominate in the middle either, seems more of the running type, like Firrito but with a lot more skill.

So you're basing all this hype of him being a champion on baller on one game? Sheesh....I suppose by that logic when Petrie kicked a bag in the first quarter against the Dogs this year, he'll go on to win a Coleman next year yeah?

If he continues to knock you blokes out of the premiership race with BOG performances, I'm happy for him to continue his meteoric rise and you to deny the evidence before you.
This is what im talking about, Harris did soo much more damage to hawthorn then Smith it wasnt funny. I think when a "kid" has a good game and if one of your best preformers, doesnt mean its a BOG.

the only reason jesse smith gets talked up so much by kangaroos supporters is because they have no other young players with any promise to do the same with.

Haha.... awesome.

I think Jesse is pretty good. Natural footballer, stingy in defence, ice-cool.

Just embarrassing when a fellow Roos supporter tries to sell him to the main board. That's asking for trouble. Could have Judd and there'd be no credit give, so don't bother.

He did play in the midfield, that was one of the few games he actually had some decent game time in the guts. Oh of course, because no midfielders are running types are they? What the hell do you think they all do besides the in and under players?

As i've said several times (can you actually read?) this is an example. The stints he's played in the midfield this year he has ripped it. This was just the game he played A LOT of in the middle, not just small stints. And the result was a B.O.G, but going on the fact that he kills it whenever he does get a go, it wasn't surprising that an extended period of time produced votes.

Don't we have Sam Power? 3 weeks ago he was a young player with promise, now he'll be just one of 22 blokes playing above themselves and achieving more than the clubs with all the young talent.
