i didnt see a heap of north games because i rekon theyre boring as shit to watch. tell me who i missed out on? eddie sansbury? scott mcmahon? pffffffffft.
You might have seen blokes like Smith, McMahon (Scott that is!) & McIntosh making your blokes look stupid both times we played you this year ;) There are a few others (Lower, Gibson, Adams, Thomas, Campbell) who may well make a name for themselves in 08.

By they way, did you think it was boring footy when Petrie kicked 6 goals in one quarter ?

Don't we have Sam Power? 3 weeks ago he was a young player with promise, now he'll be just one of 22 blokes playing above themselves and achieving more than the clubs with all the young talent.

sam power had promise in like 2002.. its been realised that hes going nowhere so he was traded to the kangaroos.

playing above themselves? thats another way of saying realistically your team is shit.

id much rather have a team with all the young talent like carlton, hawthorn or the bulldogs, than the kangaroos because everyone knows you wont back up this years effort next year... and when you start sliding down the table whos going to save you? jesse smith? i dont think so...

Firstly, the comparisons between Smith and Birchall match up in that they are both beutiful kicks, both sent a lot of time off a HBF, are both tall and both played finals this year. It ends there. Birchall is your quintessential loose kick gathering HBFer. Jesse is not. When playing back Jesse took an opponent eah week. Usually a small, dangerous, quick opponent like a Davey or Lovett. He beat them too, but still got his possessions. Jesse will also regularly run backwards into a pack. And there is now way The Birch has Jesse's sidestep. Birchall is a good player, but he won't be a Smith kind of star (nowhere near it).

Suprising that Melnourne supporters are so Smith illiterate given they would have seen him run down Aaron Davey on a wing from a fair way back and also show his verstality in playing small or tall in defence when he swapped to Newton after he was killing Leigh Bornw, and subsequently killed Newton. I guess you don't see as well from behind the glass.

Secondly, in the bloke who mentioned Moran - I can't remember the thread, but if it was talking about a 200cm freak who runs like a midfielder and ripped up his first two games, and the excitement over him...I would still be excited if we still had him. I wish we did. Can be a star if he is given free reign in the ruck. Unfortunately he struggled for game time due to the meteroic rise of Hamish McIntosh this season and the fact we had a ruck combo that was working very well as it got us to top four. The kid got impatient, he'll compete with weaker ruck stockd in SA and probably kill it. It sucks, but I'll move on.

Thirdly..this age argument. If Smith didn't break his ankle in the last practice match before the 2006 season he would have ripped up 2006 ike he did 2007. Actually, he would have been better given he wouldn't have been coming off a broken ankle. His 2006 pre-season was outstanding. He took apart each game he played in. Best pre-season performance I have seen from a North player in a long time.

From this year's Rising star group, as I said before - Selwood is the onl one who will et close to Smith. Smith and Selwood tick all the boxes - Courage, Skill, Speed, Smarts, Versatility, Genuine hardness. The others don't. The have qualities, but they also have obvious flaws. Jesse don't.

And on Wells, you are writing him off like we have given up. Not close. He was humming along very nicely at the start of this season, averaging 23, 1 goal and three shots at goal a game. Injury hit him round 7, he came OK - but the man is ready - don't worry about that, and with Smith and Wells in the midfield you can prepare to be cut apart - and that is before you think about Boomer.

u would find if there was a distance kicking contest smith would beat everyone in the comp easy when he goes full out he kicks 70m on full no bs
watch the u18's carnivals and him training

Smith will never be a star, so the premise which you base everything on from here on end heads downhill from that point. He is a useful player that to date in his career has achieved considerably less than Birchall.

You probably need to go back and consider your reason for posting on BigFooty because currently it seems as if you need to convince everybody else of the kangaroos rosy future - be it the club or the young players at the club as a means of convincing yourself.

Classic symptoms of insecurity and I suspect you realise yourself that the kangaroos have an ordinary list and a pretty gloomy future.

Lolz.

Dude, you follow Footscray

What would you know about talent, young or old?

i know that the list of footscray brownlow medallists is much longer than north melbourne's, that you dont have any inductees into the afl hall of fame under legendary status and that the greatest player that ever lived and captain of the team of the century didnt come from the kangaroos;)

3rd >> 5th.

Smith 3 votes >> Semi final.

Birchall - Couldn't even run out the game.

You talk shit. Better you keep your demented delusional crap to the Whorethorn forum. I realise it must be eating you alive, but deal with it. :thumbsu:

Wow what a well thought out and constructive post :thumbsu:
Really argued the case very well... kept to the topic, kept it relevant. Well done.

Brilliant summary of the points raised so far and a staunch defence put forward on each.

I think Smith is like H.Shaw in that he can read the play and set up attacks whilst also doing very well on his opponent. He is not loose checking like Gilbee, Goddard, Birchall and co. I see his future as a tall midfielder in the Embley, Goodes and Cornes mold.

On Wells, he had a bad run with injury after living up to expectations. Similar run with injury to Kennely - just repeated knee injuries.

I also now that the list of North Melbourne Premiership players is alot longer than the Bulldogs.

do you north melbourne supporters realise that you barrack for the worst professional sporting club in the country?

Funny considering our young, apparently useless, "worst list in the comp", "gloomy future" team put shame to every single one of the posters on here aside from Pies, Cats and Port fans this year :thumbsu: SUCK SH*T.
Dogs? Put the tiniest bit of expectation on the shoulders of this mob and they crumble to a pathetic level and can't even make the 8 after being suspected of being a top 4, premiership contender not even 12 months earlier. How many top ten draft picks on this list are doing basically nothing? All these supposed future stars that were thoroughly f*cking BENT OVER by our mob twice this year. Explain how this gives you a better list and future than ours d*ckhead.
All these people saying Smith is all we have to hang on to? Are you out of your f*cking mind? You said what else have we got? Do you know a young bloke called Hamish McIntosh? Just about AA, best young ruckman in the comp, you WISH you had him. Harris? Just so you know he isn't old at all, and he (along with Smith) destroyed the Hawks in the semi whilst playing on the Clearance King Mitchell (taking nothing away from Mitchell hawks fans, absolute gun). Before Wells was injured he was top 5 in the Brownlow, wait for him to play a full year uninjured and all you f*ckwits will be running in the other direction. Swallow? McMahon? Lower? Firrito? Pratt? - How many good players - that have many years left in the game - do i have to name before you morons realize we aren't sh*t?
H-Star...you f*cking Newbie imbecile, get a bit more jealous about our club why don't you? You are shaping up to be the next Bring-Back-Powell, so keep it up. Explain how we finished 3rd if we only have the list and organizational ability to finish 16th genius. Go ahead.
