....Buddy Franklin was not a superstar when he first came into football.....
I've been trying to think for some days how to word this ...
Basically, I believe Jesse White is a very talented footballer, and potentially a special forward. We've been buying our key marking forwards for some time now, and I've been of the opinion since his first NAB Cup game, a four-goal effort, three years ago, that White could be the first in probably a generation (Capper?) we've developed within the club.
His non-football background has been mentioned, and that's why I think his best education should be in seniors, playing with the likes of Goodes and Bradshaw, and Hall and MOL before them.
I would not expect much argument (would make a change) in saying White is a superb athlete (in fact, his athleticism, to me, sets him apart from several other similar big forward types), and a very big, strong young bloke. As has been proven, such big key position players need time. Buddy Franklin was not a superstar when he first came into football.
White needs a football education and confidence. I believe that would best come with senior football, week in, week out. We are not genuine flag contenders this season, and it is for that reason I believe there's little to be lost playing White in the senior team. I believe he should've been told at the start of the season, despite the presence of Bradshaw, that he would be playing senior footy all season and allowed to learn and develop without fear of being on the reserves elevator every few weeks if he doesn't kick eight goals.
What has annoyed me the most in this debate is the suggestion White's effort is substandard; that he lacks a work ethic. I believe that's just wrong, and anyone arguing that to be the case is not seeing the same things I see in White.
I don't plan on engaging in further argument on the subject; time will tell whether I'm right or not. I just hope that if Jesselenko DOES vindicate my (and Mr Fu's) lofty opinions, he does it in red and white.

Henry Playfair is very annoyingly underrated. At least he is kicking goals and marking well.
+1
Played his balls off with huge effort all over the ground until Roos took the cautious option to rest him with hammy soreness. Showed enough to keep his spot in the 22. Do people know the injuries this guy had to deal with ? His early promise at Geelong was hampered by recurring injuries and they followed him to Sydney. After a huge operation he has clawed his way back and earned his spot.
If he stays injury free he should get better and better.

Exactly right. I'll put up my hand and say I bagged him earlier in the year, but he has done a hell of a lot more than Jesse this season. Jesse has fantastic athleticism and agility, but limited footballing awareness and at times this season his hands have been very poor (both in the air and off the ground).Henry Playfair is very annoyingly underrated. At least he is kicking goals and marking well.
I dare say if they are not aware, they will be upon reading his eagerly awaited autobiography.
If Playbad doesn't perform this week F H Off, this is his real chance against a crap backline.

Yep I'll concede, Playfair is a handy player for us by default.
If you're the competition, yes.
