Jesse White dropping marks

So the MAIN reason we lost to Collingwood was the poor marking of Jesse White, a developing second-year key forward? Not the failure (again) of the midfield? Not the bungling in defence of Mattner, Shaw, Malceski, LRT and Grundy? Not the repeatedly awful kick-ins, nor the utter timidity in our use of the ball in the first half? Not the fact Jolly played his best game in black and white, and outpointed Mumford and Pyke?

Okay, well, I can't argue (any longer) with that.

I think you can leave Grundy out of this debate Mr Bateman. Of all the defenders he actually had a pretty solid game.

Our forward structure did not link with our midfield. Goodes was equally as poor as Jesse last night and the coaching staff needs to look at why our attacks fell down at half forward every time until ROK came into the forward line and by than it was too late.

I'm not liking some of this caning of Goodes (not really talking to you, CAS). He had a shocker, no doubt about that with a very good defender on him in Presti and others playing in front and behind him.

But i've seen some people on here questioning his effort and how much he was putting in. Believe me, he was busting a gut out there. I could just tell he wanted desperately to be up in the action to try and stem the gigantic Pies tide out of the middle.

He worked his arse off. It just didn't work for him, our midfield was very poor, he wasn't clunking those marks and Presti domianted him. But don't question his effort.

You're drawing a pretty long bow there MPB. Jesse wasn't to blame, the rest of the team were at fault. Are you serious ? Stop making excuses. He is just as culpable as any others regardless of where he's at in his development. Pyke has played much less and needs even more development but he's at least showing good progress over last year even if this game wasn't his best.

Malceski and Mattner were in our top 5 in my book despite the defence being hammered by fast and quality supply to the Pies forwards. And sure Jolly had a blinder but Mumford didn't have a bad game. Our team was down. Presti did a fantastic job on Goodes - who always pulls their best defender but Goodes busted a gut and did a lot of one percenters.

Overall the team effort was so poor that White couldn't have dragged us over the line regardless. Having said that he has lost confidence, he's dropping uncontested marks when his job description is to take contested marks. He needs to get his touch back and he needs to work on his defence. A spell in the back line might work well.

What more do people expect from Jesse?!? Non-footy background, young and had poor supply and a great opponent. He got beaten. Simple. Not all his fault, yeah some fumbles but even arguably our best player in Goodes had a shocker. It was a poor team effort, I'm not blaming one particular player for that loss at all... Certainly not a young, still developing forward who's been asked to shoulder a position were champions such as Mickey 'O and Barry Hall (yes, champion... Go watch some 2005 replays) and now Bradshaw are all missing. (Not to mention the horrid midfield performance which obviously impacted his supply & confidence/pressure/stress-levels)

What more do people expect from Jesse?!? .....)

Regardless of his level of development it's reasonable to expect to see a visible improvement from one year to the next. Roos has been very patient with White but we're the Swans not the Ostriches. Time to pull our collective heads out of the sand. Do nothing and we have a raw talent who could fade away to become the next Barlow.

A few here have suggested a spell as a defender. I think the idea has merit.

tend to agree now, needs some touch and confidence, then bring him back, if he still under performs, his future has to be in doubt. Even though I have been a White supporter from the start, comes a time when he simply must deliver what he's getting paid for.

His future is in doubt?

He hasn't even played 40 games yet has he?

Give him a chance.

Jesse reminds me of Miller at Melbourne or Tarrant when at at Collingwood. He possesses all the attributes of a top key position player but only shows glimpses of it every few weeks.

He just may need to go down back & play as a defender. Young Ben Reid at Collingwood was terrific. He was tried a number of times as a forward but didn't come up.

The famous Leaping Leo Barry was a failure as a forward but found his niche as a top backman.

I would love to see Jesse down there with his big body. Sam Fisher at the Saints is another that has a similar body type.

Jesse White can run like crazy. We are vulnarable down back. Lewis Johnson will soon be ready for a call up & this will only make things more difficult for Jesse.

Teach him Roosy!!

They were going with Jesse at CHB at the beginning of last year, i distinctly remember.

We were playing Port in week one in Canberra during the NAB Cup and we started with Reg in the forward line and Jesse down back On Tredrea. Neither of those were working at all, Jesse getting smashed by Tredrea and Grundy was not getting near it in the forward line so at 1/2 time the two pretty much switched positions and Grundy blanketed Tredrea in the 2nd half and Jesse took some nice grabs up forward and kicked a goal or 2 IIRC.

From them it seemed that Jesse was seen as a big forward or ruckman and Reg's development at CHB seemed to take off from there.

Gordon Bleeding Bennett. What a ingenious way to roll-call our resident rodents.
Precious from past the Pyreness - here
Has this one had a run yet - Here

Glad to see all is well with our chortling chumps.:thumbsu:
Unfortunately for some, having their head in the sand is the least of their problems. As it seems to be lodged a fair way up their coke and sarsa on reading their comparisons to where players may be bound for.

I have a confession Mr FU.... Some of this, particularly the last paragraph I need a translation from FUish to English please.

To all the White knockers, he is going back to the ressies this week. The worry is that Roos mentions Moore, i am sure he is going to kick a bag.

You talking to me or my white knockers ?

Look I'm just a swans supporter wanting the best for my team and like others I suggested Jesse could have a turn in defence to improve his game. That bloody Roos bastard know-nothing coach is saying he wants to send him back for 1 or 2 weeks in the 2s. Get stuck into him.

I like Moore as a small forward. He's not unlike mighty mouse.

He's not even McGlynn's bootlace, in fact McGlynn is the only decent Mac we have. Moore the only small , but wide forward who doesn't kick goals.

I like his forward pressure, his bull-doggedness and his guts. If he could kick goals like McGlynn well ....

Personally I'd still like to see Jetta get a game as a small crumbing forward. OK his tackling is wimpish (had to laugh when he tackled a pies player, the player stayed upright and Jetta fell over with the effort) but he can chase and put some pressure on teams to stop their run out of defence. He might even get a goal or two.

One word, Cheese. :o

Not saying the two are comparable, but at this level of footy, you don't get too many chances to stake your claim, when other players are hovering for a go...

having said that, i believe he'll be back and better for it.

Agree,i did post weeks ago that he needed a spell in the ressies, but was shot down!

I agree, I have been calling for him to be dropped for weeks but there are too many people on here who think Jesse White is untouchable, and shout down any opposite opinion. I think he has played only 2 games this year where he has deservied his spot in the team. As quoted by Roosy in www.sydneyswans.com.au "“You can’t keep doing the same things over and over again because you’re going to get the same result”, and the results from White have been poor.

White has consistantly failed, the others you named have consistantly been good players. We shouldnt crucify them for one poor game, but White has had all the chances and excuses and now needs to prove himself in the seconds.

You should be more worried about McVeigh's lack of intencity
