Meanwhile at Carlton a decade of heavy intake from the 1st round of the draft has somehow yielded a list devoid of any real key position talent.
Just have to hope that the same fate besets GWS and Gold Coast.

He's fitting in really well and is improving each week. He isn't setting the world on fire, but he is contributing on the scoreboard and making a contest. Handy pick up so far.

Could not have asked much more from Jesse. Although this time last year we were lauding Q. Jesse's mobility though is the big difference.

I think Reid will come back into that forward line and we have one of the best marking fwd lines in the comp. This will mean Jesse does take over the relief rucking job. Witts and Grundy then share first ruck and this will get them both thru the season without breakdowns.

Reid could go back but with frost brown keefe there is no need. Our fwd line needs to kick more goals and Reid will spark this. Keefe and Brown can be picked on a needs basis. Good problems to have.

Its amazing what a couple of good weeks can do. I hadnt seen much of Witts play but for someone his size I believe he is going to be better than Sandilands once he puts more beef on and starts throwing his weight around. He competes very well for somekne his size once the ball is on the ground
Jesse is like a crumbing forward once the ball hots the ground and its hard to find someone his size tp defend him purely because he is quick and extremely fit. He makes our forward line so dangerous.

You guys were quite fortunate to snare White so cheaply. It was a right place/right time kind of situation. Obviously the swans were fortunate to pick up Tippett and Buddy (while also locking Reid away long term) so White was just surplus to our needs at the time and warranted more opportunity.

He really hit some solid form in 2013, so as a fan, it was a shame to lose a talented player, especially since we invested a lot of time in developing him. So you've basically snared a solid, ready-made tall (without the years of frustration to get him there). So while having a surplus of tall forwards was a positive problem for us to have, it means Collingwood directly benefit.

In the past, he'd do a few good things, but then in the next passage of play he'd undo his good work, and would also go missing for large chunks of the game. Also, there were question marks over his attack on the ball, was sometimes too soft in attacking and would frequently get out positioned by his opponent. By 2013 he was competing better, was giving a solid effort, and was having an impact, both on the scoreboard, and structurally, working up the ground, taking marks etc.

So far in 2014 he's become a more solid contributor, he's improved fractionally, but noticeably. He's hitting the scoreboard and also applying defensive pressure, and he fits well into the Collingwood structure.

If you look at his stats over his career, he's slowly improved each year. It was somewhat frustrating for swans fans because we knew he was capable but he just wasn't willing to work hard enough. With maturity, and his career being on the cross roads he's realised what he has to do. So I'd expect him to continue to improve over the next few years.

Swans fans would agree that he performs best when solely playing forward, I think having to play in the ruck may either be too demanding physically/mentally for him to be able to contribute at his optimal level as a forward.

He's no superstar, but he's a great 2nd/3rd tall. Hope he has a great career with you guys.

Reid will come in for one of Witts or Grundy, and White will play a second ruck chop out role. Thats not a bad thing, theres a few perks that come with that role like the fact he will draw only the 3rd best defender which would allow him to still give his current input in my opinion, perhaps even more impact. If that does not work out we can just shift a few players around, easy as that.

You won't find many Pies supporters crying in their beer over grabbing a forward from you when you manipulated your funding to grab the two outstanding available forwards in the game.

Think he's enjoying being a valued team member. Can't wait to see what he does as 3rd banana or just a member of C.R.E.W when they're all there should get to play on some donkeys.

Can Goldy be added to make it the C.R.E.W.G?

I came here in good faith. There's no need for that.

Every club uses any advantage they can get to get an edge on their competitors, just as your club does.

You mistake my tone GTW of course you use every advantage, I was merely pointing out that we weren't unhappy to have come out on the winning side of the ledger due to your use of a perfectly legal loophole.

This... however I still cant understand why Freo or Carlton wouldnt offer their second pick - Freo IIRC is way under the salary cap this season could have given him a huge frontloaded contract and Carlton are... you know....Dumb

Only negative is neither Witts nor Grundy has shown a capacity to run out a whole game - I guess at least with Witts 'players dont get shorter'

He was always only worth a 2/3 rounder tho, regardless if you got Franklin or not. You still have Reid, Goodes, Tippet and LRT who would be ahead of him in that forward line. Plus it is a tough gig for a big Sydney forward. A game plan around stoppages, hard ball gets and gut running make it difficult for the big men.

Freo actually wanted him ahead of Gumbleton (understandable). So did the Bulldogs.

But White chose Collingwood.

Smart boy... :D

Jess balances our structure nicely. Is a good contested mark and has surprise pace and goal sense!! With him performing down forward we do not need Reid down there when he returns from injury. Reid is our quarterback and our best at setting up attack. Such a great intercept mark as well.
