He should have been brought back in for the Carlton game.

Me? I want him to stay at the club. On our brilliant run at the tail end of last year, three names come to mind: Jesse White, Trent Dennis-Lane, and Kieran Jack. All three stood up. White was forcing crumbs for TDL to take hold of, dishing off assists, and kicking a few himself, did everything right. Don't understand people who see him as crap.
Then again, I didn't think he was too bad against Carlton and he was dropped after that so meh.
The guy is crumbing goals in the reserves, and people are not happy with that!? As long as he kicks goals, he can do it any way he pleases. I think however we all can agree we would like to see more leadup mark/goals and some pack work.
The problem with this is that at AFL level we aren't looking to him to kick crumbing goals.
Our current gameplan is all about quick ball movement forward, trying to keep our forward line open and beat the press by long kicking. A big forward who can take a grab, makes that gameplan work a million times better. A big forward who crumbs the ball and doesn't take contested marks, makes it harder.

Watching the Richmond game, I remember once play in particular. Alex Johnson coming out of the back half (through LHB I think it was) with heaps of players in front of him up the wing and LHF. He looked at the mass of players and then looked further/deeper into the forward line where there was actually a one on one contest (Seaby vs Browne), put it long and quick to Seaby's advantage and he took the mark 30m out.
I recall this as that is exactly what J2J was talking about BUT it stood out to me because it happens so rarely in our games for a long kick from the midfield/wing etc. into an non-congested forward line to a one on one marking contest with space around them. It just doesn't seem to happen much at all.
I was agreeing with you, using the case of Johnson-Seaby to show how surprised I was to see a quick, long and direct kick into a well-spaced forward line to a one on one contest. It doesn't happen enough. I'm sure if a guy like Bradshaw was attracting the ball at FF it would happen more, but it just doesn't seem to be part of the way we play.

We need White to start taking grabs, to lead out from the goalsquare over and over and over, and start clunking marks, he does that and he'd be back in the team quicker than you can say "Goodes to the midfeild"
The problem with White and his crumbing goals is, so far, that is the ONLY way he has kicked goals. He's not good enough at it to win a regular spot at AFL level, he's not exactly going to get any better at it, and it doesn't improve our structure.
If White was taking a few contested marks and really providing a target, and SUPPLEMENTING that work with his crumbing goals, then that would be great. He'd be like 08-model Franklin (but maybe not quite so good). But he's not.
White is fast, athletic, he's a great kick, he has great hands below his knees, all as a 196cm, 105 kg monster. He has plenty to offer at AFL level. The problem is that he has shown very little to offer as an AFL-level full forward. He's had some handy games, but aside from that Carlton game that we all (myself included) got chubbies over, his handy games have been very non-FFish; few contested marks, few marks inside 50, few set shots, but lots of clever opportunist goals.
I'm sure DG and co think I've got something against White; I don't. I'd love to see him succeed, and I'd love even more for that success to come with us (obviously). As I said, I think he's got something to offer. I just don't think he has what it takes to be a power FF.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a crumbing forward forthwith. In fact a forward fullstop, who can kick straight and mop up the mess that is our forward entry fritter!
Yes, it would be. If TDL hadn't been sick this week it would have been him. Such is life.
Only sick for the seniors it seems, oh such is life.
He couldn't train due to sickness, and he's not an automatic inclusion with no training, which I don't think is any surprise. He was well enough to play, but underdone.
It was interesting listening to Bradshaw's press conference, when he was talking about potential forward options who can fill his position, he mentioned Reid stepping up. Then he mentioned Jesse White, he paused, then continued with "he's still here".
Not sure whether we can read too much into it but it appeared that either White's progress hasn't impress Bradshaw and he had nothing positive to say about him other than "he's still here", or there's other things going on off the field, perhaps offers from GWS or QLD based teams? Whatever the case, Bradshaw didn't appear too positive about our prospects.
It appears contradictory to what Horse has said about White, but I'm quite concerned. Looks like White may be given another extended run at some point and if he doesn't show something he may be on the trade table.
I think both the Lions And GC would be interested as well as GWS.
