I watched him closely tonight, he did offer many leads but seemed to be neglected by his teammates -

I noticed this too, however what disappointed me a little was that when 'ignored' he just jogged back, he needs to sprint back and lead again, then again, then again... He can do it.

On this point, how does he go about conserving his energy to ruck around the ground? Most lead up full forwards aren't having to cover that much territory and expected to sprint all night.

I believe this is also the hit his game takes, having to ruck as well.

I look forward to the day Mummy can stay on the park with Seaby/Pyke and Jesse can sprint all night and be want we want him to be.

I was a little disappointed in some of his marking contests but can't fault his 2nd efforts and I think that's what the coaches have probably been looking for.

As long as he keeps up the effort leave him at FF and give him a chance to get the rest of his game together.

I only got to watch the game this morning and I was disappointed in White's game. Most of his tackles were weak (not all but most), he was outpositioned by lesser bodies in marking contests, and a number of times he wouldnt even chase. His ruck work was ok, and it did look better having a big bodied mobile player forward, but for his size, weight and mobility, he just doesnt do enough.

Maybe he was the player we needed down back last night, playing on Cloke? We had no one else good enough, big enough to stop Cloke, and if he (Cloke) had kicked straight, we would have been in a lot more trouble. Maybe that is where he(White) can learn to be a better forward, seeing how the best forwards play, in the Swans defence. Just a suggestion, but I believe he needs to do a lot more.

Watching Cloke last night I remembered back, and he wasnt always the dominant forward that he is now. I know its a tough position and it takes time to build confidence and to learn the role. I think White is still learning what he is capable of, and I hope he can succeed.

Cloke is less than a year older than White. Think about that for a second.

Cloke has been parked at FF through the start of his career. White has not. Think about THAT for a second.

Granted, White's development has been haphazard at best. But White hasn't shown the one thing necessary for a key forward to be successful: marking ability. Had he shown that, maybe the coaches would be more willing to play him as a permanent FF. Cloke could always take a contested grab, from his very first game. If White hasn't learned to take a grab now, I think it's fair to say he never will.

Does that mean he doesn't have what it takes to be an AFL footballer? No. He has the talent to carve out a career in another position. But it has become clear he won't be a key forward.

Don't forget Cloke dominated in 2007 as well Swanee. His contested marking has bee good for a while. It's his goal kicking which has improved. He has show a hell of a lot more than White. Cloke could go on to be a multiple AA and HOF player. White is still in the potential good player basket.

Both very good points but I tend to agree especially with Bloodstainedangel5, in that if White cant take a contested mark by now, it's not something that you can necessarily learn. Look at Reid, and his ability to mark from day one on the park with the Swans. He can only get better as his experience and confidence grows, but if White was to get better, I still can't imagine it will ever be a big part of his game. Only goes to confirm my thoughts that he should be tried down back. Contested marks arent so important as backmen rely more on spoiling or punching the ball out of the contest (don't tell Leo Barry that). White is quite capable of taking an uncontested mark (as required when loose), and against someone like Cloke or Franklin, would well be the size and body required.

He still didn't impress me last night, but he was leading at the ball a lot more than earlier in the year and that IS a step in the right direction. But he didn't take a mark - even the commentators talked about him getting muscled out of position too easily. He MUST take marks if he is going to be a forward, because even if he is the best tall crumber in the game he'd still be a LONG way down the list of good crumbers in the game. He'd even be a long way down the list of good crumbers in the Swans team.

Come on, Jessie. Prove us wrong and start using that frame of yours!

He kicked a solitary goal last night but also consider the opposition. Sam Reid did nothing tonight but he'll get a game next week, and so he should. I think he did enough. Could've kicked zero?

Plus he seems suprisingly good at dishing off contested handballs.

I think we have to leave him in for his second efforts and ability to ruck around the ground purely because we don't have a choice. He may not be taking many marks, but we did look a lot better with White and TDL up forward last year. We don't really have the luxury of leaving out a 197cm, 107kg tall forward at the moment. At least you know he will always give a contest, and at the very least it buys us time until we find a more effective forward line setup (i.e. when LJ and Sam Reid are a bit older). I'm still hopeful that one day the marking will click for him, because when it does, look out!

Please dont give him another game until he can put 10 outstanding games together in the 2nd's. Tonight he was atrocious. Forward, back, everywhere. He is not at the leve of AFL and I dont think he ever will be. Cant tackle, cant mark, and his disposal if he does get the ball is dismal.

Harsh, very harsh! And you based that on the perfect delivery? The fact that he wasn't permanently in the forward line? The conditions? Give him a go, it was only 2 weeks ago it was his own coach that said, and I quote...'we'd like to settle Jesse down at FF...'. That hasn't even happened yet! He actually presented, his hands were good and granted, his stats were down...but he wasn't Robinson Crusoe!

Sure, there were many players who's stats were down, but they at least were good last week or the week before. White's stats are down every week, week in, week out. He just doesnt have the smarts, the nouse, the footy brain to be an AFL footballer. He cant mark, he cant tackle, he's not fast, he just doesnt make the grade.

Is that what sets you and him apart? White wasn't in the team the week before! Kennelly has been pretty ordinary too, but do you want to bag him? Maybe Everitt who's been participating in the unorthodox role of substitute? Yeah Everitt has been but a substitue...seriously!

White was okay last night, better than a few others like Jetta
Bedford I cant agree. I want to use the excuse that conditions were wet and did not suit the big bloke but than I have look at Tippet for Adelaide. A fairer comparison for White across the league you will not get. Similar in height, power and only a year difference in age. They play similar positions and a similar background in their way to the AFL. Tippett took several important grabs in dangerous positions. He Admittedly spent more time in the forward line but still managed 7 hit outs to White's 9 from what I can assume were less attempts.

Jacobs, who spent more time in the ruck than either Seaby or White had the fitness to get forward and grab a dangerous mark in their forward 50 in the last term and than another one on the HB line crucially holding us up.

Two of Whites 3 grabs came uncontested on the HB line in the third term. I wanted to say a tough night for the big blokes, and it was. Yet Adelaide big boys found a way to succeed despite the conditions. White did not.
