I'd be surprised if he was back in the team next week. Spangher performed much better than White has lately, although you'd have thought that White would have been able to do well against the Suns undersized defence as well. I think he'll have to wait a little while for another chance now, especially if Spangher keeps playing the way he did last night.

The guy can split packs, can take speccies, can crumb, can kicks goals on the run, kick goals on the boundary, kick them from outside 50...need i say more?

Yeah, you do need to say more. "Takes basic contested marks" would be a start. All of that stuff is fine for a crumber. Problem with White is that he's not good enough, particularly defensively, to be in the team as a crumber, and he can't take a mark which is needed for a key forward. He's in no-mans land up forward, neither one thing nor the other.

around in circles we keep going

I would swap a second hand shoe for White He never gets more than 2 goals a game drops easy marks, gives away free kicks and applies no forward pressure what so ever. Not that it matters but just look at his dream team scores they are ridiculous.

Has kicked more than 2 goals several times
Drops easy marks-Yes, more than he should.
Gives away free kicks- No more than I'd expect. Hell he gives nearly half away of what Tippet does. http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/...1=1750&tid2=17&pid2=1793&type=A&fid1=C&fid2=C
No forward Pressure- Go re-watch the Eagles game, his first goal was from a forward 50 holding the ball.

Amazing comparison!. Those stats are so damning for White. Whilst White may only give 50% of the frees away that Tippet does, Tippet also receives almost 3 times the free kicks that White does. Thats not umpire bias, thats because Tippet gets to position and plays in front.

Kicks per game, tackles per game, goals per game, nearly every stat Tippet is 50% to 100% better.

The most worrying thing about this is when you look at Whites age, 23 years and 6 months. Statistically players reach their peak at around 24 y/o. If thats the case, what we are seeing in his games now is close to as good as he is going to get. We need to move on with plan B.

If he puts in a blinder this Sunday and for the remainder of the season and proves me wrong, I will happily eat my words (with humble pie). He has the body, the mobility and the athleticism, but just not the footy smarts.

Amazing comparison!.

Yeah it's a good one, for mine Jesse may never be as good as Tippet, that's fine. Jesse may be slower to develop, or never get there at all.

Jesse has played 1.5 seasons of games in the seniors less than Kurt, so as has been said a bajillion times, lets see where he is at by the end of the season. I fear though that not much will change if he can't break into the side and get a solid run in there without being dropped.

No worries Fu :thumbsu:

We have all seen what Jesse can do. I would not be too quick trying to move him on. When Bradshaw came last year White was pushed into a pocket and this season has played relief ruck and forward. They need to decide where they want him to play and then settle him down to learn how to play that position-whether in firsts or reserves. Rather than comparing him to Tippett a better comparison might be with Hawkins. Who would you prefer of the two? They are both having identity problems.

Besides being also down on form/lost Hawkins is the same comparison as Tippet. Same draft year, similar team roles, output more again than Jesse in most key areas if not all. More games again than Jesse by nearly a season.

I'd prefer Hawkins over Jesse as well. Both are underperforming though, which is a disappointment for both teams. If Jesse survives the cull from the extended bench this weekend, he really needs to have some sort of impact on the game. Excuses about it being wet (which aren't coming from him of course) aren't enough. He can still impose himself on the game.

I get the feeling that with only 7 H & A matches remaining in 2011, Jesse in now on trial to see if he gets another contract with the Swans, or if he's traded off to get a pick or a player that suits our needs.

What we DO have an abundance of at the Swans, is tall forwards/second ruckmen that can't perform in high quality senior AFL games. Nevermind that we bully Brisbane, Gold Coast or Port etc. Can they perform at a consistently high level week in week out, just doing their role?

If the answer is no, then we need to move quickly on a trade before the player becomes 'damaged goods' on our list that no other team values.

If Jesse fails in the coming weeks, I have no doubt that Spangher will leapfrog him in coming years. Only 1 year at the Swans as opposed to 5 or so for Jesse. I was VERY surprised to see Spagher miss for Jesse tomorrow (unless injured) after a more lively 1st Q effort than anything I've seen from Jesse this year.
Jesse at least deserves this one more chance for a few weeks IMO.

Why a few weeks, Spangher only got 1 game despite as you said "after a more lively 1st Q effort than anything I've seen from Jesse this year". If Spanher performs in the reserves and Jesse doesnt perform, then to my mind, it is an automatic swap next week. Jesse doesnt deserve any more favors than any other player. If he doesnt perform, drop him.

Because Spangher's injured..?

I'm extremely keen for him to make an impact tomorrow, because he basically HAS to in order to not be dropped. I think its fairly obvious that the coaching staff aren't going to pick him based on potential anymore, so now is the time. If he doesn't offer enough and Spangher recovers from injury, he'll go straight back into the seniors.

Stick a fork in him folks, he's done.

Had a chance to stand up today and show us what he was made of, and he turned in an insipid performance.

He's got no aggression in his game. Small man playing in a big man's body.

That's a bit harsh. On small men. Ballantyne has a LOT more aggression in his game than Jesse!
