Hi all, I haved recently moved to Melbourne and are a bit behind on the gossip. Jesse Aish playing AFL, I can hear it now from my work colleagues "whos son.... Michael Aish?, never heard him.....". I am getting a little parochial here but if Michael Aish was playing today he would be one of the guns of the league, he was still dominating when he played against the other old timers in the Whitten Legends Game a few years ago.

What about some of the other guys like Justin Scanlon, Keith Thomas, Danny Jenkins, Lester Ross, David Payne - does anybody know if they have any kids coming through the ranks..? ahhh those were the good old days = pre AFL!!

did anyone see him on ten news tonight?

Fairly classy goal he kicked, got to be happy with that for his first kick in league footy.
Yeh, I saw him and the old man.

He's basically came out and said he wants to be the first Crow father/son selection, and I get the feeling the interview was mostly to put his name up and make sure the Crows are aware of him and his desire to play for us.

They stated that he had only taken up playing football seriously in recent years and was developing very quickly. He certainly looks to be a good build for it. He's taller than the old man, looks fairly solid without being really muscular, and looks pretty athletic.

Lets wait and see how he goes for the remainder of the season. Just maybe he can impress enough to warrant the Crows taking the punt. I think everyone would love to see him turn into something special like the old man was. It might soften the blow of missing out on that other son of a gun we've been denied. Fingers crossed.

I believe Lester Ross' son was Jonathon ?

Lets hope that Jesse is worth more than a third round pick so we can get him with a third rounder.

Don't have to take him this year....can tell the lad "wait another year" then review it

Very strong draft ....not ideal for Aish to up against a 3rd round in this draft?

Asking him to wait an extra year is almost like placing him on the rookie list...in fact IMO nothing stopping the club having him train with us or at the least accessing the AFC resources (A.Stewart)

I think you'll find some of the people at the AFC already have given Jesse a bit of guidance.

Based on the little I've seen of him this year, I don't know if Jesse's worth a third-round draft pick at this stage. I'm sure our recruiting team would have done plenty of homework on him already though.

What you are proposing is no doubt good for the club but not for the young man in question.

You are effectively saying dont nominate for this yrs draft on the CHANCE the crows will pick you up next year. But theres no guarantees - injuries, form etc can impact next yr. ANd Trigg mentioned recently of no upcoming FS selections for a number of yrs.

With the above in mind, why would Aish not nominate for this yrs draft ?

From what I've heard, it's very unlikely Jesse Aish would be prepared to nominate for the draft if the Crows weren't going to pick him up. I'm told he's not prepared to move interstate away from his family.

thats interesting. Would drastically reduce his chances of getting drafted but its his decision I suppose.

His dad was like that with norwood.

Michael and Neil craig are old mates, that alone would make sure that Jessie gets an even break.

I still tip not nominating.

Beacuse the Crows may think in a strong draft that he's not worth a 3rd round (late developer as someone said) ....yet they may take him next year as a third round with a little more development.

The crows may also like to rookie him but thats a raffle.....yes he can put himself in the draft BUT if the Crows don't think he's worth it....the odds are that very few 3rd rounders make it anyway.

i see what you are saying but you didnt answer the question i posed. whats the benefit for jeesie to not nominate for this yrs draft considering the crows wouldnt be able to guarantee him a spot next yr. and trigg recently said there were no upcoming father son selections in sight. hardly reassuring for jessie surely?

My tip would be he won't be picked up under the f-s rule and, as a result, he won't nominate for the draft, either.
if hes borderline obviously they wont want him in the 'super' draft. Doesnt we wont look at him in the future in a weaker draft.

he doesn't have to go if he doesn't like the team who picks him up.

But, from my understanding, the only team he would be happy to play for is the Crows. I'm no expert on the draft rules, but don't they make some sort of commitment to agree to be drafted if they nominate?

yeah he can be drafted, but doesn't mean he'll go.
doesn't hurt him if Brisbane draft him say. he just stays home if wants to.

Bit O/T guys, but what are your thoughts on young Matt Thomas for Norwood?
