People are just blindly throwing names out there because they WANT to see changes or WHAT to see a certain play brought in.

Another viewpoint is that while no one player warrants "dropping", several other may warrant "an opportunity".

For the first time in years spots are tight and sometimes it's a great benefit to blood new players in games where no expectations are on them.

I'd personally welcome Rohan getting his 1st game in Melb. with no pressure on him, family\friends attending and sadly someone would have to 'make a hole' in the 22 for this to happen (on form\balance Jetta ATM).

FWIW, I think we could carry this now rather than later.

Just my $0.02

Family\friends would definately welcome Rohans first senior game in Melbourne cause the 12 hour trip home from Sydney last weekend after watching the Ressies was horrible. (weather was great though).

But he and the others will get opportunities throughout the year, I don't see the point of dropping players at this stage for no good reason when the team is playing so well.

So Jetta's "opportunity" is up? Is that what you're saying? He no longer deserves an "opportunity"? He's had three games, now move him on because, why? In three games he's not Cyril Rioli?

And how would there be "no pressure" on Rohan, whether his debut is in Melbourne or on the moon?

It's senior AFL football, I have a sneaking feeling the kid's gonna feel some "pressure".

I bet he's still champing at the bit though, it does seem fitting that he gets his first run in Melbourne, Id like to think young Gary shares your sentiments (thats what a team player would say) and he does seem like a great kid from all reports, it wont be long...:thumbsu:

He's a great kid, going to be a great Sydney player, but when and where he makes his debut can have NOTHING to do with what's most convenient for his family and friends.

yeah I know, I did say 'seem', but it would be great for his family and friends if it worked out that way, I like fairy tales. I still have a little warmth left in my heart.

Finally watched the replay on Fox the other day. Jetta did plenty to justify his selection this week. Missed a snap at goal, but delivered some nice ball along the wing/halfback flank, was involved in a "special" goal as Broooce would say, and is using the ball well. Is he as big a spunk as [insert your favorite pretty boy from reserves here], I don't know. I just like watching him play footy. He might need to lay a few more tackles, but that will come in time. He's there to run, to excite, deliver good ball and kick goals...

As has been pointed out... Jetta isn't the kind of player who is going to benefit from playing in Canberra. He's already excelled in a much higher standard of competition and while he is lightly built, he doesn't need time to bulk up in order to be effective.

If his performances are well below standard then by all means drop him for the sake of the team, if not, let him continue to improve in the seniors.

Lewis' latest journal article, talking about his stuffing around with his housemates and the neverending quest for Goal #1:

I love Lewis Jetta, even though I watched him a lot for Swan Districts in the WAFL I was a bit worried when we picked him in the 1st round, but his journal articles are great. He is clearly just a big kid, and is absolutely loving every minute of the experience. Must think its Christmas every day. He'll never become an elite midfielder, but he'll be a great impact player in his role on the wings. Adds something very different, and hopefully still has a fair bit of improving to do.

I disagree. I think Jetta has a really good chance of becoming a A Grade midfielder. I have watched Aaron Davey this season and i think that is who Jetta should be aiming to be like (and i think he can do it). Davey is a gun player (even if he has been in a rather dodgy team most of his career).

Aaron Davey??? Over-rated. Jetta's already better with his passing by foot.
Jetta can already eclipse anything Davey's done, which isn't that much.

Stephen Hill would be closer; Hill is going to be a superstar, and to me is closest to the way Jetta moves on the field, same build, same long arms, floating running style and beautiful field kick.

Davey is a gun IMO. Love watching him play, even in a shite side. His passing skills by foot are outstanding and he can tackle too.
Our LJ is a mighty fine talent all the same.

I love Jetta , but he will never be a big effective tackler, thats good as outside players now can tear you apart.

Aaron Davey isn't overrated. That's Alwyn you're thinking of. Aaron is Melbourne's most important player, his footskills are sublime (yes, even better than Jetta's), he's just as quick and he is a better tackler. He is also considerably more experienced than Jetta, so I'm not for a minute suggesting he always will be better than Jetta, or that Jetta doesn't have the same potential. But to say Aaron Davey is overrated is madness. Genuine gun.

Yeah, he's too skinny, but geez he can run and kick. Comparing him to Davey at this stage is a bit onerous as well...Much prefer to think of him as our speedy little wingman with a silky right foot and a crooked smile.

Genuine bollocks.

He's a good player, made to look better in an ordinary side. As Melbourne's kids develop, Davey will be exposed for his disposal errors and poor decision-making.

He's better than Alwyn, but he's not as good as most Victorian fans and commentators seem to think.

I don't rate him, but who really cares?

Have you actually seen him play in the last 18 months? His kicking is fantastic, and that's something that is made to looks worse rather than better in a bad side. When he was a small forward putting in inconsistent performances, often injured and unaccountable, he was overrated. He has now turned into an absolute gem, and is one of the very few Demons players that not only gets the ball, but knows how to use it.

I think Lewis is doing well.I think he would be better if he continued running into the goals rather than pulling up for a set shot which seems to be a problem for him. He's not pat malone with this.I heard Richo say that it is harder to kick a goal from a set shot as in his opinion,a little voice gets in many players head and he mentioned that he thought Lewis was one of these players. It will come together hopefully with experience.Personally I don't think he has "earned" the green boots yet,it's added pressure and good for sledging against him.
