Is anyone else slightly concerned about his lack of impact on games? Surely he can only get by on the occassional dashing run for so long. If he was 19, I would be happy to carry him ... but he is 22.

I would much prefer to have parker in the starting 21 from next week.
 
Im not concerned because he offers much more than just flashy runs, he is coming along fine and his age is of no concern and will improve even more, anyway some of you Jetta bashers will get your wish this week as he cant walk his knees stuffed.
 
Agree with you Bez. Jets showed some form in the second half and I was quietly hoping he'd get some confidence from it. Then my 7 yr old boy went and asked the hoodoo question "Dad, has Jetta ever been injured ?" - (The boy's been locked under the stairs ever since)

Had he not been injured I'd have kept him in the team and swapped nipper for parker. Hope he heals fast. We need his unpredictability
 
You're right in that he doesn't deserve the same patience that should be afforded to an 18 or 19 year old kid playing his first few games but he still needs a little time to adapt to AFL football.

Having said that I think he's been alright this year, not outstanding but good enough to deserve a place in the side each week.

Although I agree that he has been given more leeway to develop than other players and hasn't really performed as well as his potential suggests, its undeniable that he has improved each game this year. And that is always a good sign for a young player.
 
Last 2 games have been much better all in all. His 2nd half against the Dogs was good and that run and left-foot pass to Goodes inside 50 is an indication of how much talent this guy has. Would be a real shame if he had to miss games now due to a knee injury now given he's just running into some good form.

All of this. Started off poorly but the last two weeks have been a lot better, and last week was particularly good. It would be horrible luck if he missed next week with a knee. :(
 
I must be watching a different team this year - because I think he does, on average, about 3 good things a week and he is unsighted for the rest of the game.

Im not necessarily saying he shouldn't be in the team, because I never see the reserves play ... but if both were fit - I would be picking Parker ahead of Jetta this week.

I agree that he is (very slowly) improving and he does offer some unique abilities - but who is to say that players like Gordon, McNeil or Meredith wouldnt improve more rapidly if they were afforded the same opportunities.
 
I'm not saying he needs to dropped and never be seen again, but I do think he needs 2-3 weeks in the ressies now. Agree with an earlier post, he does around 3-4 good things during a game and you just never see him again, plus opposition players break his tackles a little too easy for my liking....I know, I know, there's not much of him, but still!!!!!

Meredith has had nothing like the opportunities that Jetta has been given. Granted he has been injured too often.

I just think that supporters are turning a blind eye to Jetta's ineffectiveness, because he does some really exciting things. Perhaps I am just getting carried away with the quarter that Parker played on the weekend, but I remember thinking "why has this bloke not been in since round 1?"

Different positions though. Swapping Jetta for Parker doesn't work. If you get rid of Jetta you need to replace him with a similar player. And that player is?......What Jetta isn't doing enough of is pushing up and in and really playing that marking wingers role. He really can't take contested marks as he gets bumped off the ball. He needs to find more space and create opportunities for the defenders coming out of our half.
 
Jetta has been given somewhat of a charmed run by the selectors but it is because he provides us with something that just about nobody else on our list can. And in regards to the 3-4 good things he does a game, again not many people in a Swans jumper would be able to do them. He is slowly improving and hopefully he capitalises on the sustained run in the 1's he's been given.

I thought he should have been omitted going into the Dogs game but since then he has been much improved and he deserves his spot.

He is doing alot right, more than hes given credit for on here it seems, pretty sure he is leading our inside 50's, he breaks the lines and that is important in this day of the press, he has a great kick(both feet lol) and I see so much more improvement to come. One thing Ive noticed is he doesnt get alot of contested possessions but his style is a receiver. Dunno about you fellow 'supporters' but when he gets the ball my bum lifts of my seat everytime. He does tackle believe it or not(do his critics actually watch?), sure they not exactly sling tackles that you rugby folk expect but they are effective enough, his 'pressure acts' stat is up there with the best so hes not exactly hanging out just for cheap kicks. The reason he keeps getting a game is enough to suggest people at the club know better than a few on here simple as that.
 
Really weird time to start this thread, after one of his better games and he really looked damaging on numerous occasions on Saturday night.

He's been one of the two most frustrating players for me (the other is White) and that's because you can see the obvious talent and ability to really break a game open and they rarely do it.

I was on the "Drop Jetta" bandwagon a few weeks ago, not because I think he's useless but he just seemed to need a spell/wake-up call to kick him back into action. Thankfully, however, he seems to have done that himself and he's looked like the player we all want him to be for longer periods during the game.

My view is that he'll seriously just click at one point, sometime very soon, and become quite a consistent performer for us. He's a quater of the way through his 2nd season at senior level, we judge people too quickly at times and expect everyone to be a Hannebery or Reid.
 
I don't mind "junk time" Jetta. Things happen around him - and many of these things are often good. I can understand how outside players appear to grate with the culture the Swans have had in the last 10 years, but I actually find having someone like him in the team to be a fresh look for us. We've got enough blokes who can do the inside things.

If he is going to be that sort of player, however, then he needs to develop into a genuine finsher which he just isn't right now. Too often he breaks lines then duffs his kick. But if he can fix up that side of things he will become more and more important for us. I'm prepared to give him time.
 
The two ordinary games from Jetta were both in the wet. When the
conditions suit or the style of the play runs to the open space he
is a stand out.

The general consensus appears to be that we are happy to carry him because he is really fast or he is suddenly going to dramatically improve.

He is exciting to watch when he gets it, but when you have had 81 possessions in 7 games and you can't hold a tackle or take a contested mark ... im dont really care how exciting you are when you have the ball.

I just dont understand the theory around why as supporters we are happy to carry a bloke who basically never plays a good game. We should be judging players on there actual output, not how flashy they are when they have the ball.

I also dont agree that he played really well on the weekend. As usual, he did a couple of nice things and went missing for large portions of the game.

I think he's going to repay the patience the coaches have shown in him with a blinder sometime soon, then his confidence will grow and he'll start causing real problems for sides. I have no doubt Horse is pushing him to take the game on a bit more, and Roos said as much on the commentary on Sat night. Thing is I don't think he's ever been caught with the ball? Someone may correct me on this stat, but I think he's so wrapped up in the idea of playing team footy that he's not taking situations on enough.

The defensive side of his game is another issue. He will never be a great defender, but as long as he uses his speed to hustle and corral players, rather than laying crushing tackles, he should be ok.

I like him, I want him to perform and succeed. He aint there yet. But either is Jesse who has been stretched further and harder than this outside winger (yes in twice as many games). But the hate campaign on Jesse doesn't lose traction, yet Jetta is flashy and I believe the perception to be he is thus forgiven/given more leniency.

I hope and believe they both will become valuable cogs.
