More than likely for sure. The proof - or not - will be in the celluloid.

Why any one would 'hold on' to footage like that for 40 years defies logic. Biggest story ever. Almost.

It's speculation because the truth is somehow too mundane.

The behaviour of the two bullets does seem weird - one remaining relativly intact (although far from "pristine"), and one exploding into fragments.

Here's my understanding of it.

Bullet 1 (from shot number 2, the so-called "Pristine" bullet, it's not pristine) - Goes through Kennedy's neck (doesn't hit bone), hits Connolly underneath the shoulder and hits the 5th rib, then hits his wrist and lodges in his thigh. How do we know it was the same shot? Because it hits Connolly sideways - the entry wound was the exact length of the bullet. It seems far-fetched and unlikely, but it's been recreated (without human targets) and it can be done.

Bullet two (from shot number 3) - Has nothing to slow it up, so it's travelling at 2100 feet per second, and hits solid bone. That's why the head explodes and so does the bullet. Again, it seems illogical, but it's not.

You're spot on with the grassy knoll theory. If someone had shot him from that direction, there would have been an exit wound at the back left of Kennedy's head. Instead there was nothing. That was the real magic bullet, he managed to miss every person, the car, and all the bystanders.

As I understand it (and I'm far from an expert), there's no way the bullet itself could have exploded and shattered just because it hit bone. The bone itself could have shattered (and probably did), but the huge exit wound is inconsistent with this, as are the fragments on the X-rays.

Wallaby, you have summed it up perfectly, didn't anybody watch the Four Corners doco last week, explained everything with a full re-enactment, closed down the streets in Dallas, used the same type of vehicle, same type of weapon, even had their own Jackie in a pink suit, they used lasers to show the trajectory of the bullets, they even showed how the casings would have landed on the floor of the book depository. It's accepted as longer than that now. It might have been the Warren Commission who arrived at 5.6 seconds, but they had the sequence of shots wrong to begin with. Pretty sure the timing now is thought to be 8.5 seconds from first shot fired (it's around frame 160 in the Zapruder film) to the last at frame 313. For a trained marksman, reloading the gun twice in 8.5 seconds is far from impossible. Especially if you've spent time actually practising with the bolt action too. Which Oswald had.

Give it 12 months, there will be another revelation promoted by someone else. And just like all the others, there won't be any actual evidence to support it. Which sadly for some, seems preferable to accepting more mundane facts.

I've heard Bugliosi talk about him in nothing but the most glowing terms. So he's obviously a good lawyer. But clearly was playing to the emotions of the jury. Can't blame him, the evidence against his client was (and is) overwhelming. If it has been a local politician, the case would have been quietly solved and shelved immediately. Because it was Kennedy, and especially because Ruby (another head case) bumped off Oswald, the conspiracies grow. Doesn't make them real though.

I love a good conspiracy theory, but this one seems entirely fixated on minor details that can never be resolved. Was there three or four bullets? Who cares, one of them hit the target.

Re: Jack Ruby, just skimmed the wikipedia page. Admitted on his death bed that he acted alone in murdering Oswald. So there you have it. Case closed.

Having spent 5 minutes reading about this case I've come to the conclusion that Oswald, acting alone, assassinated JFK because he was insane. Even if the chances of Oswald nailing JFK from the depository was nearly impossible, the odds are still infinitely more likely that anything anyone else has proffered.

Allen Dulles, the first civilian Director of the CIA, was deeply involved in regime change around the globe. After the failed Bay of Pigs operation, regime change in Cuba became much more unlikely, as history has shown.

There is another very significant backstory to the burgeoning anti-Castro movement that revolves around heavyweights like George H. W. Bush, Richard Nixon, Barry Goldwater, Allen Dulles, J. Edgar Hoover, Lyndon B. Johnson and some very powerful conservative businessmen.

There’s no question that these high profile political powerhouses were being pushed by their corporate overlords to undo the Cuban revolution.

Not only did they not want a communist state in their back yard, they didn’t want their myriad commercial interests threatened throughout Central and South America. The specter of industry-wide nationalizations was already looming in various left-leaning countries.

Rogue elements within the CIA, fanatical Cuban exiles, avaricious NOLA mafioso and the like were merely the tools in this raging war between capitalism and communism. Their collective hatred — and deep-rooted fear — of Communism became the central organizing principle for a virtual conglomerate of various government institutions and corporate entities.

Castro’s Cuba was regarded as anathema to this burgeoning movement. The Kennedys and Kings were simply no match during the tumultuous 1960s.
