Opinion JHF Trade 3 years later

The problem when Butters leaves is how will JHF be with the extra attention?
As an example, players like Ashcroft have Neale, McCluggage, Bailey and so forth to take attention of him.
Daicos is the main man at Collingwood and has to deal with a tag most weeks.

Will JHF be able to handle being the main man and cope with a tag?
I think he will

Rozee will be easier to tag (will move back into midfield next year if butters leabes) due to being less of a threat forward, maybe he cops the tag?. JHF is very imposing when going forward compared to Rozee, i think if he has been tagged tagged u park him one out in the goal square and back him in too kick a few goals. When playing as a midfielder it is yet to be seen if he can handle the attention or not. But a tag game for JHF could look something like 18 and 3 goals, compared too a a higher position game with 1 goal.

Then I would be more than happy with that output.
18 and 3 whilst being tagged is huge, he should welcome the tag if that was the case.

in hindsight taking Callaghan at 1 would’ve been better

Or the trade that Adelaide proposed which would’ve netted us rachele and Humphrey

but if goad comes on him and wardlaw is still a decent return
We've offered a lot of crazy trades to North and Melbourne and that trade would have cost us Rachele and Curtin (would have traded our 2023 1st rounder for Rankine), luckily both clubs knock us back otherwise we would still be stuck in a rebuild.

Yeah that can happen if he becomes the player i think he will, we will see what happens.

I'd love to see him drag his opponent to the goal square when he gets tagged. Up forward he is a bit of a nightmare to match up on. Too strong for some and too fast for others

we also got taylor goad, who is the ideal ruckman for the new rules, fastest player on our list and can jump higher then anyone in the comp, just wait till he’s tank builds

Taylor goad (fastest player on your list can jump super high!!) can't even get a game with Xerri out.

at this point in time, he's a non factor in the trade

I think JHF for Port will end up similiar to the Judd trade for Carlton.

Port's list has to be the most two tiered list since Carlton. They have drafted and developed well with first round picks. Rozee, Butters, Wines, Georgiades, Bergman. Add JHF and that top 6 six is matching most sides.

The problem is their bottom 6 would be lucky to match most state league sides.

So in isolation Port have won the trade with North but because they have given up quantity for quality it is going to bite their overall list build when they have shown no ability to draft and develop players from late in the national draft and the rookie draft.

This thread becomes meaningless next year when Dougie comes in.

JHF will be a better player when Dougie comes next year and even better the following year when NAS comes home.

JHF will be a better player when he loses one of the best two way mids in the game, in his prime, for a string bean 19 year that plays plenty of football at CHF and CHB?

I’d love to know the reasoning here that Cochrane as a 19 year old will release him more than Butters getting all the attention.

History looks likely to repeat itself.

After ignoring the draft for years, they might even need to tip in more capital than what they get for Butters to simply draft Cochrane under the new rules.

That is a disaster.

Wardlaw is average at best, also can barely play a game because he is made out of glass unfortuantley

JHF miles ahead

We’ll take the 110% effort and permanent great attitude of Wardlaw over the sooking and choosing when to try of JHF, thanks. Enjoy the rebuild 👍🏼

you have been rebuilding for 7 years🤣

Oh look, we’ve had more than a couple setbacks. Bur onwards and upwards hopefully. I’m just glad we won’t be competing with Tassie for picks, hopefully we’ve built a strong enough core to carry us forward now.

We did also land Taylor Goad, who at 206cm is seen as a long term investment, but still needs to be remembered in this discussion.

And of course JHFF wanted out, due to ( wait for it) how settled Port is under Kenny Kinkley. That deserves an LOL

Even considering Port aren't doing great this year, hes been in a much more settled team than North, and I don't see how you can dispute that.

He's won 42 games since joining Port. I'm not sure what that number that would be had he stayed at North.

I'm guessing 10 or so

I like Port, i just don’t really like JHF. Or rate him that much.
Wouldn’t boo him though.
Didn’t begrudge him leaving, considering the shitshow we were. Good luck to him.
I have a strange view on the whole thing… not going to deathride him, but happy with where our midfield and forward line is at. I’m not looking at our list wishing we had him.

As for success, he’s had the sweet taste of winning at port more than he obviously would’ve with us. We’ll see how his career pans out though and what he achieves both personally and with the club.

Where's Wardlaw?? The Kanga Kanga Kangas have won more games than Port

JHF really only got going 2 weeks ago. No pre season and first few games were basically his pre season conditioning, but within actual AFL games. Still he's top 20 in the coaches votes. Says it all really.

All these threads do is come back to bite you on the arse.

Be better than this, both fan bases should be happy.

yeh its been years now, its time to let it go.

i sort of get wanting to gloat because he had a stinker against north, but anyone with eyes can see he's a gun. if he can get his body right and get an actual full pre season in next year, he should go to another level.

Dougie will spend 3 minutes through the midfield and get two possessions and a tackle, so when you extrapolate that through to 100 minutes it turns into 40+ possessions and 30 tackles. When you consider he’ll also spend 25 minutes forward and kick two goals - that’s 8 goals every 100 minutes.

Teams will have to put a mountain of work into a 40+ possession, 30 tackle, 8 goal 100 minute player that JHF will be left alone to get a lazy 30 and 3 goals.

‘First-year-Dougie’ will be the greatest 28 minute 100 minute player the game has seen. 40-minute Wardlaw’s 100 minutes pale compared to ‘First-year-Dougie’.

Dougie won’t be chip-scabbing out the back like Sheezel either in his first year.

North messed up drafting JHF - everyone knew it. North messed up not accepting the amazing offers for Pick 1 - everyone knew it. North got less for JHF then he was worth in the trade - everyone knew it. Port won the trade in the 3 year review - everyone knows it.

North did as best they could with the trade after a number of awful decisions - but that doesn’t mean they did well.
