Opinion JHF Trade 3 years later

We’ll take the 110% effort and permanent great attitude of Wardlaw over the sooking and choosing when to try of JHF, thanks. Enjoy the rebuild 👍🏼
You’ll take the 110% effort of 60% TOG of a player that is 40% the player JHF is?

That’s like 27% of JHF???? Are you sure that is what you want?

I want someone on my team who bleeds for his club, not attached to his mother’s breast. Thanks.

Dougie will spend 3 minutes through the midfield and get two possessions and a tackle, so when you extrapolate that through to 100 minutes it turns into 40+ possessions and 30 tackles. When you consider he’ll also spend 25 minutes forward and kick two goals - that’s 8 goals every 100 minutes.

Teams will have to put a mountain of work into a 40+ possession, 30 tackle, 8 goal 100 minute player that JHF will be left alone to get a lazy 30 and 3 goals.

‘First-year-Dougie’ will be the greatest 28 minute 100 minute player the game has seen. 40-minute Wardlaw’s 100 minutes pale compared to ‘First-year-Dougie’.

Dougie won’t be chip-scabbing out the back like Sheezel either in his first year.

North messed up drafting JHF - everyone knew it. North messed up not accepting the amazing offers for Pick 1 - everyone knew it. North got less for JHF then he was worth in the trade - everyone knew it. Port won the trade in the 3 year review - everyone knows it.

North did as best they could with the trade after a number of awful decisions - but that doesn’t mean they did well.

It’s all worked out in the end.

Jase gets to spend the rest of his career in a full wooden spooner style rebuild with the tarps dusted off and rolled back out after Port burn their main list currency on matching an NGA bid.

The people we took instead get to spend the rest of their careers going in the opposite direction.

I’m very much looking forward to watching first hand how he leads this team through this period, after all he’s known for his patience and maturity.

Oof - I’m sure this post isn’t tempting fate at all …

This is my bad - I thought you were Sphynx and I was being a smart arse. You have been pretty reasonable in this thread. My apologies.

LolNorf fans are a special breed of basement dwellers. They must have started including free Kanga memberships with centerlink jobseeker payments or something :tearsofjoy:

JHF still living rent free in their heads.

So 3 years later i’m actually quite happy he left, it’s obvious to anyone who’s got half a brain we won this trade.

wardlaw, who is arguably better then no chase jase by him self, anyone who doesn’t see his value just watch the last 5 minutes of the carlton game

No chase jase would be just about the most overrated player in the game, blokes a w***er and not even a gun at footy

we also got taylor goad, who is the ideal ruckman for the new rules, fastest player on our list and can jump higher then anyone in the comp, just wait till he’s tank builds

we will be winning finals while jason rots in the bottom 3

Happy easter everyone.

Wardlaw is in his 4th season.. was taken at pick 4 in the draft... averaging 18 disposals and 3 marks. Hasnt kicked a single goal or behind. Never averaged 20 touches in his career.

You can find players better than him in the midseason draft. Absolute battler.

Please north supporters, stop posting ******ed shit, it is an embarrassment to the entire club. i don't think Port supporters are much better having a go at Wadlaw who has struggled with injuries.

JHF is a super talent and it is regrettable we dropped the ball with the way we handled him whilst he was at the club, I'd love it if he was still here but it is what it is. I still like watching him when I watch Port games.

Our club has been diabolically run for far too long, it is a lot better now than it was back when JHF was around but we have to take some accountability that the environment wasn't good enough at the time.

I wish him the best, obviously not when we play Port, but it is crazy how bent some people get when players move clubs. I am sure Port fans are going to be welcoming of Butters when he leaves for greener pastures at the end of the year, lol West Coast supporters booed Darling after all he had given them and he was no longer wanted at the club.

it is fair to say the IQ of the average footy fan is not breathtakingly high.

um what
wardlaw who is good as long as his hammys stand up
vs JHF who seemed to be to chase and dominate vs our midfield

It’s a thread purely assessing the trade, it was a blockbuster trade at the time, like many other threads on here, it’s not about Jhf, port fans are just victimising themselves.

We gave up Ginbey and Goad for JHF.

Ginbey looks a good player but in terms of what we gave for what we got, it’s an absolute home run from our end there.
I don't think anyone would argue that Port didn't make out like absolute bandits for a pick 1.

North got pick 2 and 3, I absolutely don't understand the trade at all from a WC perspective.

Wardlaw is close to the most overrated player in the comp. Genuine scrubber. Port easily won the trade despite where the rest of their list is heading

Might have to let the ratings mobs know.

He's one of only 3 x u21 players ranked in the top 50 in the league in 2026.

Nick Watson and Harvey Thomas the other two.

I don't see why he couldn't be if he keeps this up all year.

At the moment he's a great ball user and almost 1/4 of all of GWS' scores flow through him at the moment.

Which is a similar amount to Shai Bolton at Freo, Kade Chandler at Melbourne or Max Hall at St Kilda who are all having outstanding years.

But please, let me know the counter argument from the stats you are looking at on the back of the Herald Sun.

His closest statistical match from the completed 2025 season across all line items based on his 2026 averages is Scott Pendlebury, who I assume you think went pretty well last year.

The next closest was Brad Hill and Jaspa Fletcher.

The scrubber element is what we love about him. A lot of his value won’t appear in stats - a dive here, a fingertip there. His desperation was massive in our win against Carlton. His attitude is exactly what we want. Who knows how much he lifts others around him, also an intangible.

JHF was young when he left. No hard feelings. I hope he has a good career.

FWIW I’ve been critical of George’s ability to stay on the park. But if he can get some consistency under his belt and add good, solid games like the recent Richmond win to his repertoire, to go with the manic ones, I’ll be very happy
