Opinion JHF Trade 3 years later

The scrubber element is what we love about him. A lot of his value won’t appear in stats - a dive here, a fingertip there. His desperation was massive in our win against Carlton. His attitude is exactly what we want. Who knows how much he lifts others around him, also an intangible.

JHF was young when he left. No hard feelings. I hope he has a good career.

FWIW I’ve been critical of George’s ability to stay on the park. But if he can get some consistency under his belt and add good, solid games like the recent Richmond win to his repertoire, to go with the manic ones, I’ll be very happy

Talented players who give their all every time they step onto the field are gold. So many gifted players think they can just cruise by on talent alone. Going by our last game a few Lions fit into that category.

I think some of the comments are a bit disingenuous to Wardlaw too

A bit like JHF, they're impact players and you can't always measure their output by the stats. However they'll be hoping for more output from him, and to get more consistency in his game.

Might have to let the ratings mobs know.

He's one of only 3 x u21 players ranked in the top 50 in the league in 2026.

Nick Watson and Harvey Thomas the other two.

Ratings is made by nerds who don't understand football

Port came out on top if you weigh up assets out vs assets in.

The Goad pic is too speculative, if that ended up a lower pick like a Caddy, Osullivan, or Curtin, even Wilson overall it starts to favour North. But it didn't. And Goad may or may not ever come into calculations. If he does, the thread gets bumped and we 'may' end up on top.

Looking at who followed Wardlaw, North's return for JHF could've ended up disastrous had WC & GWS not helped North land picks 2 & 3.

North fans aren't complaining, though we absolutely wouldve without wardlaw. We could've been ****ing reamed if it was a straight swap for ports picks.

Can’t wait for butters to leave and the sook to cop the tag each week

I think JHF is more likely to develop the ability to deal with a tag, than Wardlaw is to develop the ability to run out a full game at 75-85% TOG, which seem to be the consensus limitations on their potential at the moment.

I don’t see why the 21yo mid has so much scope for improvement but the 22yo mid doesn’t. Both are talented but Horne-Francis looks the better of the two.

The beauty of JHF is you just move him into the forward line where he is an absolute nightmare matchup for any tagger.

Wardlaw doesn’t hold a candle to Horne-Francis.

Wardlaw is a low TOG, impact player, middle of the road role player type that no one would bat an eye lid at noticing on a football field. He’s more closely comparable to Willem Drew, James Rowbottom, Tom Atkins.

Hornet is a clear as day stand out match winner. He plays like Nathan Buckley and is more comparable in style and peak to Dusty, Danger and Bucks.

It’s stupid to even have a 6 page convo on this. A bust of a pick in Goad and a role player in Wardlaw vs a match winner in Hornet….

Hm, not sure about comments here. Not to be bothered to go through them.

Just wanted to say, I watched 3/4 of the game yesterday and JHF was awesome! Unbelievable in close, burst of speed, great kick. Just be consistent and he is superstar.

I think that sums up both sides* of the entire thread in one post, well done.
