Re: Jimmy!!

Whately put it beautifully yesterday - "He has ice in his veins'

The Jimmy killed every clutch moment. What a legend.

He's the player we always wanted Haselby to be.

Paul was go, and had many of the same characteristics of Jimmy: Hard at the ball, great overhead and fantastic hands, but through injury and shit coaching, Paul didn't reach those heights.

Oh well, we get to watch Jimmy for a few more years :)

Jimmy's performance reminded me of that great Aussie flick that was made about a decade ago. The ending sorta sums up what Jimmy did to Collingwood on Saturday:D
He's even got Keanu look-alike thing going

(maybe in my spare-time I may try and transpose Jimmy into that scene:p)

The word Champion gets bandied around a lot on these forums :D but seriously.......if you ever want a player in you side that will stand up and deliver in the heat of battle; he is the man. The moment i realised it was going to be wet on Saturday i bolted to the TAB and slotted $48 on the man at $8. The man is a freak in the wet and overhead he is as dominant as anyone in the comp. Humble, gracious, blessed with talent to burn......and his missus isn't too shabby either, shit i'm jealous :p

So much love for Jimmy. Not much else to say really.

As far as betting goes, I had a multi for the Cats to win under 39.5 points and Jimmy for Norm Smith queued up and ready to go with sportsbet 6 minutes out from the bounce. Stupid site locked up and I wasn't able to confirm the bet :( Would've scored $370 thanks to Wellingham's "goal".

What hurts more is that back in 2007 before the season had kicked off I had two $30 bets on for the Brownlow. I had $50 on Gazza at $51 and $50 on Jimmy at $101. I celebrated very hard on Brownlow night thinking I'd just won $5k. Logged in the next day to "collect" my winnings to see two expired bet slips. One for Gaz, and one for Ling?! To this day I'm convinced something dodgy went on.

betting wise I took the player goals head2head bet between Stokes & Blair for Collingwood.

Blair was paying $1.75
Stokes was paying $2.05

I went pretty heavy on Stokes to kick more goals than that dud knowing full well that Stokes had the 'infamous 2008 grand final' still ingrained at the back of his head and that redemption was paramount.
Really couldn't believe he was underdog by the bookies and when he kicked his 1st goal and was threatening to kick another 1 or 2 more I was pretty stoked:thumbsu:
Made my day even better as Blair was subbed off at halftime:D

Re: Jimmy!!

Jimmy may not have featured in the All Australian consideration, but if you had to choose a team where your life depended on the victory, Jimmy would be your first choice!

I tried to say here that players Bartel, Corey, and Rooke had a bigger impact on our success from 2007-2010 than Ablett. I was accused of being bitter, etc.

But this unintended controlled experiment that is 2011 bears it out. :thumbsu:

Bartel is a champion player, a team man, courage, and steel nerves. He can beat Hayes playing a negative role, kill them at CHF giving away a foot in height, kick pressure team goals, tackle as good as Kelly...etc.

The only reason he doesn't have 5 AA selections is because he doesn't hock himself all over the media or play selfish.

It's interesting looking at players stats and watching the great players really stand up on the big stage when it's fierce and unconditional. Some love it and others can't quite get into it.

For all the love and accolades he receives, Chris Judd has played in 14 finals and averaged 24 disposals, 3 tackles and 8 goals in total.
Jimmy Bartel has exceeded all those stats and I find it difficult as a Geelong supporter to remember a match where he was poor in a game that meant a great deal over the span of his career.

Of course you rate players like Judd on the little things they also do in a game but apart from his explosive speed and brilliant hands, he hasn't got the aerial ability that Jimmy possess and he kicks more important goals than Judd has. It was great to finally hear the media talk of Bartel in the same light as Voss, Judd, Hird and co:thumbsu: His performance in that grand final has now put him in their class and he's only 27, I remember Hird still dominating at 30 so would be awesome to get more finals memories from Jimmy in the years ahead.
