I went to some of the recent Melbourne comedy festival shows; they were mostly from the left and pretty dull and did not at any stage create conversation or controversy which is basically what humour is all about.

And Jimmy Carr right now is better as a panel show host than stand up, allows the wit to work well with fellow comedians

I thought the idea of humour was to make you laugh.

If the only thing that makes you laugh is controversy and jokes targeted towards people/groups, then that says a fair bit about you, none of it particularly great.
