It's none of my business and I only watch Essendon on Friday nights when it's on TV and when it plays my mob but I reckon Johnson is over rated, especially this year. I'd be behind the club on this one.
How did JJ go in round 22 of this year ? Didn`t cost someone a Brownlow did he ?

Isn't Heffernan a poor example of loyalty ? He was traded off in the first place. I don't know why he was picked up again but it would have more to do with what Essendon saw as what he could contribute than that he is a former player. Weren't Rioli and Ramanauskas contracted ? Once the contract is in place, the club is stuck with the player. That's presumably why Essendon is being cautious with Johnson.

Picked up to add much needed experience to a young midfield boasting Watson, Stanton, Winderlich, Lovett, Monfries etc etc, he has a cool head and good disposal under pressure and still does a good job as a stopper, there are a lot worse footballers out there than Heffernan

I Agree

in all honesty jj in form is the player our club has represented in the past 10 years he is what we are all about, a person that just keeps truckingon until the final siren. Sure his kicking skills can let him down but in form he is consistent for us week to week, just keeps motoring on. I thought 2 years ago we should have traded him for salopek now i think salopek would be held in higher esteem then him so having lost some value i think we should show some loyalty and keep him because i doubt we will get someone better.

footy is a business like most things these days, and sadly clubs are after two things, success on the field and cash... for numerous reasons JJ might not fit in with our agenda, our plan to mount a serious challenge for the cup in september might not involve him as his position requires more and more pace each year which he cannot deliver

jj is a good player but all get over it really... + if he helped the dees lift up the cup id be a happy man.. aslong as some ****ing victorian team wins it soon!!

Thing about Jason's average kicking, is it just doesn't matter as much when Lloyd is in the foward 50. Lloyd read the ball so well, that even if the kick is in the general direction of him he is likely to get hold it. As long as we can get the clearances we are a great chance at winning with lloydy in the F50, and jason is awesome at getting the first touch.

The point is they have picked the wrong player to negotiate with, which is undermining the whole process. If its not aimed at JJ, don't insult the guy. Insult players like Laycock who is also wanting 2 years. Where is his one year contract ? MJ doesn't need this sort of message either.

Have a look at the two players offered 1 year deals or are unhappy with their deals.
Solly who has had injury after injury so is a risk.

JJ who had to have a foot operation which was reported not to have been the sucess they thought it would and at one stage it was thought he may retire. Yes JJ did find good form again in the second half of the year but there is still a question mark over his foot and if he can get through pre season without any further problems.

Laycock who has had numerous injuries for ages.

I would say the above is sending out some sort of message ;)

Point remains he smashed the pups that night.
He had his best game for the season in a losing side against a team which treated the game as a training run. However good you think he may have been in the past, he was ordinary this season, not ordinary enough to be delisted but enough to warrant a one year contract.

However bad you might have thought he was there were underlying factors, he deserves a 2 year deal, he better get it in the end, seeing him in another jumper would make me ill

I don't think he's a bad player, he's just not a champion or a match winner. I think Essendon supporters over rate him. I'm sure Essendon has good reasons for offering him one year. Those reasons will be known to other clubs, too. I don't think you need worry.

There's a difference between champion AFL player and a champion player for a club, which JJ is, hence why seeing him in another jumper would make me ill. 2 B&F's would suggest he is good and his second half form shows why a 1 year deal is insulting

Fair distinction. I still don't think you need worry. I doubt there's a lot of interest from other clubs.

No I'm not, Dad. I love Jason Johnson, but at the end of the day we can't afford to soley base calls on whether players are good clubmen or not. If the club only belive he's worth a one year deal the they should stick to it and not offere one more just because he's a good bloke. I don't care who plays in our next premiership team.

Dees are expressing interest in him in actual fact. They see a more than capable player in him. I dare say if the Kangas hadnt meesed up with their experienced players policy theyve adopted in recent times, he wouldve been on their radar too. A smokey would be Brisbane, especially if Voss retires, theyre going to need a ready made player to be able to pick up the gauntlet. Dont think JJ will go though, he'll get his 2 years as deserved. Im not so confident Solly will remain with us next season which would lead me to believe he would be a more than handy acquisiton at the Dogs to help release Grant up field (while Darcy finds his rhythm again) and Solly being down back for your mob will help players like Walsh, Wight and Williams develop.

That's speculation by a journalist only. Every club is "expressing interest" in everyone at this time of year. Watch what happens next week. Solomon offers nothing. He was dropped for poor form fand lack of discipline from the team which finished equal bottom ! He's undersized for a key defender. Footscray has enough of that type and all are better than Solomon.

Ah ok, a journo wouldn't know anything while someone sitting at his computer desk knows for sure there's no interest in him what so ever....right :thumbsu:

yeah he was dropped for discipline reasons i wouldn read too much to form as he was being played out of position but you know players that are being traded usually have a deficiency peoblem during the season, its not like west coast would trade judd, kerr or cousins or footscray trading West or B.Johnson. all players being touted in trades bar thornton have queries about them.
