AFL Autopsy JLT 2: 28 point loss to Geelong

How do our coaches believe we are in a position to experiment in our only 2 pre season games.

The excuse if we lose will be that we are still learning a new game plan, Then why didn't we practice it when we had the chance?

Our 1st time playing our new game plan will be round 1, Does that sound crazy to anyone else??

What happened to Parish? was hyped all pre season and has been bog average in both games same with Langford both lock for the VFL.

Looks like Langford and Parish were on heavily managed game time.

Only 54% for Langford and 46% for Parish, most Mids hover around the 85% mark usually. Both would have been around the 25 disposal mark from a full game.

For some perspective; Shiel played 79% and had 25, Duncan played 86% and had 24.

Merrett is much more of an accumulator and had 24 from 59% which would be 30+ from a full game (as his norm seems to be).

And you look at how Stringer, Francis, Tippa and Joey started off last season, for a variety of reasons. Hooker is a slight concern though, obviously.
Yep we're in a better spot than this time last year for sure! No Hooker for now but there was no Francis last year. He looked so good at times tonight.

Smith only had 4 tackles, he had only 1 at halftime. Last week was 50% and tonight was 75%. At times we snapped out of it and went hard but still think we gimped the game. The younger players cant help themselves at times and go like a cut snake.

It's a good time to put some money on the lads I think.

My only genuine concern is Joey!
Yep, and he's the "pressure barometer". Joey didn't have the best game but he was moving well and jumping freely which is what I was hoping to see.

Relax people relax.

Cats played a chip chip short kick/easy hold mark game and maintained possession with quick play on handballs with more short passes.

We went for the flat out running multiple hand pass attack game and it just didn’t come together in the F50.

We’ll be right.

Tackling and chasing by us was good.

Just another practice match folks. 7ADEFC54-B2CB-497A-ABE6-9E95BF947FCA.png

Remember when Woosha said that one of his objectives was to make sure that we peaked at the right time of the year, not at the start. This was after Ess had started like a house on fire for several seasons in a row only to fall in a heap in the back end of the season. Last year we left our run too late, hopefully we will have learned from that.

We seem to celebrate and prefer hangars then eeking out hard nosed wins.

What is our game plan and what do we stand for as a side. If we are going to play high risk game from half back we are going nowhere.

Need to get the manic pressure back.

Need to look at playing Tippa as a centre square specialist.

So many unknowns about where we are at

Oh yeah...and...Langford is a massive worry. Seems incapable of getting in the play. Zero aggression.

You have to wonder how he has managed to convince the coaches to have so much faith in him.

If he has been impressing at training and reverts so effortless to a laconic style that doesn't belong in a second tier competition how pissweak is the training standard?

Amazing,' don't worry it's only a practice ' , 'the boys are a bit rusty', 'learning to play with each other', * me, what the hell have they all been doing since november.
We're in for another year of frustrating crap.

It’s hard to see on tv wtf he is doing outside the play.

Just seems to get the odd link up handpass here and there and disappears off the map for another 10 minutes.

Intra club match sims don’t mean s**t.
Anyone can run around and get a bunch of touches cause there’s no real pressure or opponents on you to make you work really hard.

I think he just gets lost in real games because the speed of play is so much more intense.

There seems to be no real defining position he’s actually suited to either.

Frustrating for us fans perplexed about what his actual role is in the team.

He’d better start getting into it or he’ll find himself back in the top 5 best in the VFL side every week languishing in no mans land unable to cement a senior spot.

It looks like we have spent a summer trying to get the ball out into space. I shudder to think what Melbourne and Collingwood will do to us if this is the approach we're going to take to those games.

I'm not sure what the plan with Langford is either. Any speed he had has well and truly gone I would have thought that'd he would have bulked up by now and that we'd use him as a big, first touch inside mid. He can hardly hold position against his opponents.

Given the way he plays and the way he has been developed there is absolutely no point even thinking of him as an inside mid, let alone a big body. He's about as imposing as Gleeson.

There appears to be a grand plan that seems to involve complicating every ******* aspect of team selection to the point of counter productivity. The phrase square pegs in round holes comes to mind.

This year and last year's preseasons have left me wondering that because we have guys looking set to become elite world beaters only to disappoint against other more developed sides.

Not too worried about the results of the games but the 2 things that send the wrong message was our attack on the contest (was it due to the fact that they were practice games or are we soft?) and Langford/Parish really do not seem up to midfield roles. Not sure how much to read into it but it’s been very underwhelming so far.

Took Richmond 1 pre season to get their s**t in order why is is such a struggle for this team?
