Jones and Ned are both skinny kids but clearly we went for pace and more pace and tackling

So I won’t be too surprised to see Chayce given a shot in round 1. Needs to stack up against other options like Murphy and Knight but if he puts in a decent showing I can see him being selected on the bench
I'd like to see Chayce become a blend of the best bits of those 2 actually. All the ball winning skills and game craft of Murphy, built into the athletic attributes and doggedness of Knight.

Put those together and you have more then just a handy footballer. You have a Star!

Campo clearly said in the presser that the club feels Jacobs is ahead of O'Brien right now

:$
It doesn't surprise me, I get the feeling that Campo is one of the main contributors to the conservative selection committee. He's probably still fuming we played Doedee over Otten in round 1 last year

So after all of that, we haven’t addressed our need for pressure inside attacking 50.

The likely round one side has a bit of ‘same same’ about it. Organic growth here we come.
Vs this time last year, having a fit knight, sloane, tex, lynch, smith, betts and brad crouch and there's a tonne of pressure right there. Also add in Jones, even though first year, elite speed and endurance. Possibly if ROB gets in, he is much better at pressure than jacobs and that would help further. Add in a Gibbs that knows our gameplan rather than just runs around in no mans land. Add a year of experience to the dude. Jeez, how much pressure do you want.

I was so excited heading into this season, but got a nice dump of reality listening to campo talk...

What i took from that- mackay and Greenwood both probably play round 1, ROB isn't getting a game again this year because sauce is "in front of him"

Anyone else getting a Menzel vibe from McAdam? Bucket loads of talent, but lacks commitment? I don't really buy the whole "it's a big step up from the amateur leagues" argument.

Our two 1st round picks, Jones and McHenry are 19(?) and are aerobically ready to go for round 1.

Not at all.

He's doing the work, but even last year in the SANFL he picked up the pace after being a way behind.

Kids in the TAC Cup are prepared better than Shane has been..... And we picked 2 athletic freaks.

I think the youngsters had pretty serious training regimes over the past few years. From the reports, McAdam hasn't. Even though they've put up some good numbers, they still wouldn't be aerobically ready for a full season I don't think.

Actually quite miffed that Hartigan is playing ahead of Keath, despite Keath consistently outperforming him over the past 12 months.
Just dumb selection as usual from the AFC.
I’m straight up filthy on it! This is the easiest decision of the lot, and we still can’t make it! Bad bad start at the selection table IMO

Bodes well for DMAC, CEY, Sauce, Dougie and Otten though.

Agree with the above. McAdam is tracking perfectly, doing all the work and loving it by the sounds, a far cry from Menzel. Its just he came from so far back he, the club, a lot of supporters, but obviously not all, knew that it would take until somewhere from mid this season to the start of the next season before he'd be fit enough.

Not really , he’s an 18 yo kid with a bit of size to put on and Jones is a top 10 pick

Ned won’t take long to get in there
So not much difference to Jones seeing both are first rounders, young and need to put a bit of size on (both are what, 4-6kg off ideal?).

I agree he won't take long, but it is very odd to see a first round draft pick miss selection in these games. Preseason is rather meaningless after all.

No

He’s already played a better game than Menzel played in his whole time with us and is doing the work and showing improvement in his fitness

He will be fine

The fact that they are quite similar in roles they can initially play has worked against Ned with Chayce being slightly more rated as ready to go

Means nothing for medium and long term though , Ned will get in soonish and have a great career

LFC,
I wonder why we are taking 25 players over if we are planning on only playing 22-23 ??
Surely the guys missing out would be better off playing in the sanfl trial
Still need emergenices, plus players could then come on if required so we don't play 1 down and run players into the ground before the year starts.

Bang on, Neddy and Chayce are both aerobic beasts.

Edit : And both AFL Academy lads so they've done that bit extra training and preparation as well as overseas camps etc.

Anyone excited that we will see Brad and Matt Crouch, Sloane, Gibbs on the field at the same time.
And going up against arguably the best midfield group in the competition as a lead up to Round 1 could not be better.

Guess you guys aren't thrilled about travelling to Canberra? Last year the Eagles had to play us at Narrandera and found it a bit frustrating, given their season load. You are a big drawcard and it should be a spectacle for the locals anyway.

I think it's important to us to connect down there early. Usually we play the opening rounds at Manuka while Spotless is in Easter show mode. This year not till round 5. We're going down today with open training and a players meet and greet this afternoon.

It's a good surface and a big ground, should be a good hitout for both clubs anyway.

Indications are that Hately and Caldwell are on the plane.

Nothing about Ward who might miss. Even if he's not playing he might go anyway if he doesn't have rehab obligations. From what I've seen he enjoys mixing with the fans and having his photo taken with the kids etc.

Dont care who wins, just no-one gets hurt and a good hitout is had by all.
