And 13th is where the general consensus of the afl world has us.I see a lot of people think the JLT has decided everyones season.
I got bored at work and made a ladder from the 2 JLT matches.
JLT doesn't mean all that much.

What we need is a solid midfielder who requests a trade to us randomly because he's homesick or something and we can get them cheap.
D.Swallow, J.Martin, off the top of my head.
Brad Hill cost Fremantle practically Chris Mayne or something. Can you believe that? Highway robbery! Even won their B&F. They've traded a speedy flanker and cashed in on a pure competitive midfielder in Brayshaw. That's on top of the talent they have in this area too.

Bingo.
We recruit players that we “THINK” we can develop into full time midfielders.
I call them the hybrid midfielders.
It’s a flawed and unbalanced implementation of how we should have gone about recruiting our midfield.
Duggan and Venables were never pure mids in the TAC cup competition.
Duggan played off a HBF and DV was a HFF , sure there both were given runs through the midfield but it was part of the rotations and neither players primary role was midfield duties. ( Side note both are very talented players .... just not pure mids )
Case in point in the recent draft we passed on a pure midfielder in Charlie Constable his last two JTL games for Gellong have seen him rack up 22 and 18 possessions. He is now honing his midfield craft NOT learning how to play it.
We for some #%*^ reason don’t draft natural ballhawkes .... cue my weekly Bailey Banfield reminder.
It’s part of why I don’t rate or have any confidence in our recruiting team as far as midfielders go.
They go players with potentially positional versatility over players who are capable of playing pure midfield roles. ( Yet most weeks we are beaten at stoppages, in clearances and in contested possessions.
Hard to get forward supply and entry if you don’t have the ball.)
These decisions are exasperated by the fact we just don’t develop player well period. Therefore the recruiting teams choices are not supported by adequate player development. The frustrating thing is that the pattern just keeps being repeated in successive years.
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a difffernt result.”
Yet we keep doing it .![]()
Vardy is an important player also , good mover and has that pace to move forward . Lycett could play FF , if we had more available ruckman he could have filled the void untill Kennedy returns .
Seen a photo of Kennedy's ankle after the operation , wasn't a pretty sight and not surprised that JK is taking his time .
Fair point and definitely something that needs to be rectified going forward. Though I still think we have a starting midfield group that is solid enough.
Shuey, Redden, Sheed, Gaff, Hutchings are all natural accumulators, and I'm of the view that Yeo should be played as a full time mid this year as I believe he has the ability too. Ah chee will also provide a spark in the middle once fit again.
Duggan and Venables should absolutely play as primarily flankers, both have the ability to be elite HB and HF for us in the next 10 years.
This gives us a starting midfield group of:
Nic Nat Shuey Yeo
Gaff Redden Sheed
Hutchings and Ah Chee rotating off the bench.
There is no reason why this midfield shouldn't be considered in the 8-12 range in the comp, which should still make us competitive this year with a top 5 backline and kennedy.
As dismal as we were vs freo lets not forget 6 of those guys above had 20+ touches vs port, with nic nat still to come back.
I think depth is more our issue. An injury or two will significantly impact our midfield this year, and it is vital we draft pure mids going forward
I mean come on. Just like Banfield, he was right in front of us, so obvious it's not even funny.

Pick 36 actuallyYes Charlie Constable at a pick on the 40s was very surprising
Tough question since our midfield sux. I would still say Mcgovern.Just as an example, who would you prefer in your team right now. Rory Sloane or Jeremy Mcgovern? Which one would be the best value for a million dollars per season to make your side a better side?
I am not saying I don't want Gov but I would not be paying overs to keep him as he won't be the difference in us ever winning a flag. Midfielders are.
Teams were spooked by his lack of pace. Eagles definitely got scared off I believe.
Time will tell with Charlie. He will stack up the possessions but will also get killed on the rebound.
Compare him to Ainsworth and I think we should have picked Constable. Both stat getters in the juniors with not much pace but Constable was a much better inside mid.

There are good mids in every draft. There are very few Mcgoverns though.

Very true ...Ainsworth is impressive and so is Petruccelli with his pace .
I'm not that fussed about the pace thing Geelong have done well and expect them to be thereabouts again this season .
Would probably be easier to swallow if the club that picked him up wasn’t the one down the road..I'll be whinging about missing out on Banfield for his entire career![]()
I was thinking something similar. By being a bit half and half in terms of contending or rebuilding we give ourselves a Sydney type outlook. Always there or thereabouts for more than a decade and never going full scale rebuild. Only difference is Sydney give their young guys a go so hopefully form is rewarded and vice versa for out of form players this yearNot too concerned , we might have overachieved the past few seasons , we are not a team that bottoms out .
Can see what Oscar Allen and Brander will offer in a few years time .
Masten and Watson were very good at EP , Watson just plays his own game and it is very refreshing might frustrate the coaching group though .
I'm also hoping that performance was just an anomaly since they were very good against Port, hopefully they can get back to that form in 2 weeks time. Just don't really understand how they could play that badly yesterday.Guys bagging the midfield after yesterday should watch the JLT replay v Port ..The midfield performance was solid and at times very attacking through the middle ..
Now I don’t know what the heck happened yesterday but I’m bullish about them firing up rd 1 ..
Brander needs a good run for EP this weekend after only playing a few minutes yesterday.
