Solid first hit up, a lot to like.

Shuey, Redden and Sheed in the middle were all excellent - moreso the first 2.
If Redden can continue to be given opportunities in the middle we'll be better for it (can't see why he wouldn't).
Sheed continued to get in hard and release from in close as well as presenting as an option coming out from defence, possession at times was a little iffy, but generally good.

Gaff is a star, we'd be stuffed without him - constantly presents as an option, continues to be 'death by a thousand cuts'.

Duggan was sublime early, super clean and kicking well, really liked a lot of what I saw yet again from him.

Shep looks like 2015 version which is great, although his awareness at the end nearly cost him, he was bloody strong to take the bump from a charging Dixon. But he was cool and calm down back, excited for his season.

Jetta was great off the half-back, hopefully he stays there all season allowing Yeo to be released more up the ground.
Kicking was generally excellent, gained a lot of territory and finished the game off well.

Cripps was one of our better forwards, didn't always do as well with ball in hand, but laid a team high 7 tackles along with applying a lot of pressure, he always gives 100% can't ask for much more. Just needed to finish off his hard work with some goals.

Vardy/Lycett are excellent backup ruckmen for NN, both go in hard and can offer something as forwards.

Waterman showed great intent from start to finish, chased hard when without the ball, and apart from one incident generally lead well.
Has a bit to work on in terms of disposal and positioning, but with our delivery i50 being a little average he toiled away well.

Ryan is everything we hoped for, early call but can see him really lighting it up. Was a little fumbly at times, but he'll play Rd. 1

Ainsworth did some nice things early, very comfortable in the clinches and loves the contest.

Venables used every touch well, the concern is his inability to get involved, but I'm sure that will come, had 74% TOG so was given opportunity which is great. Think he'll be a 15-20 touch player, but all critical disposals.

Port were missing a couple of players and rested most of their stars for long periods, so not a lot to take away, but a great hit out and a win's a win!

Jetta looked really good back there. Working hard for it and got used, maybe over used at times. The thing I like about Jetta back there is, hard to play a defenceive forward on him and Hurn and I guess the Gov for that matter

Well that was fun. Carbon copy of the EF last year - that will smart for the port players.
Very encouraging from our POV, the stats back us up well, and our new midfield did ok against a much more vaunted port midfield. It augurs well for the season ahead. I thought Ainsworth shows promise, so too Watson. Redden was good.
An enjoyable, hard fought win, and no slow pokes in the midfield anymore. Hallelujah!
Bring in Nik Nat, JK and Willie and I believe the season looks a lot more promising than what pundits were prepared to admit.

You get three disposals every time you fumble the ball twice. It would be good if he could also manage to do something constructive. Does try jtho
Absolutely brilliant . Of course people on here wont recognise this brilliance and continue to spew shite that he shouldn't play round one.

Honestly though, how was Jettas 65m kick and it sailed through 3/4 of the way up the posts. Be bigger than Hurns bombs now days
Jets and shuey are out best field kicks Imo. So glad we played jets off the hbf, he can be a real weapon there.

I like the def of hurn Shep Cole gov barass Jetta and duggan/yeo spending some time when not in the middle a lot .

I was pretty happy with that game, particularly with the midfield group. They should continue to improve as they gel and mature. They looked pretty solid across the board with Shuey and Yeo being pretty dynamic. I thought that Gaff's pace looked a bit sharper than recent times - he was very good. Still want Duggan in the guts rather than in defence.

Hurns kicking range is so over rated nowadays
He's still got an really accurate boot at 50-60m, it's just I think these days he's not as willing to take a risk like he used to so doesn't really give it as much chilli. I'd love to see him go down the centre a fair bit more this year, be really offence minded again.

Perfect hit out. The win is nice, good habit to get into early. But what was really impressive was how we stood up to a fair bit of pressure. Make no mistake- Port came to win today, when you say pre-match that the season begins now you know it means something to them.

I was super impressed by Gaff and Redden today. Shuey was shuey- but Gaff and redden were really good all day. Gaff in particular looked to run and bounce; hopefully that continues this year.

Ryan did some nice things, as did DV, Ainswerth & Watson at times. Vardy also was good. Really liked Jettas game and that goal of his was electric. I’d love to see that round 1. And 2. And 3. And 4. Just makes things happen with ball in hand.

Our defence also held up really well considering we lost Gov to that cheap sho.. I mean bump. We adjusted well but it was our pressure up the field which helped.

Darling had better moments late but I expected a little bit more. Same with sheed, who I thought was ok without standing out. Maybe I expected too much first up. I may be expecting too much from a JLT game- but this really is his year. I hope he takes his game to another level this year.

Also, I didn’t think Port controlled the game as much as the commentators were saying, unless I was watching a different game? I thought it was really even.

Ryan pick 12

Ryan wouldn't have seen much defense playing juniors until now

Darling hasn't had that standout season where he's kicked 40 to 50 goals

Fair to say the commentators are rustier than the players.

I thought the commentators rubbish to be honest.

No question, looked back to his 2015 form.

I don't recall any of his tackles being broken that game either, and plus a bunch of his kicks he kept lower than usual. Really he doesn't have that much to work on, so hopefully he has and has a good year. Copped a bit of treatment that game too.

Happy with that. Fumbly but then so were both sides and skills deteriorated as both sides got tired.

Like Jetta on half-back - most accurate and inventive kick in the team.
Not worried about the bombs into the forward line - Darling doesn't lead up in the way Kennedy does, little to kick to.
Shuey a class above everyone else out there.
Minimal injuries - Gov will be back for next match.
Ryan adds some life up front, just needs to learn he doesn't need to jump for everything.
Shep solid as usual; shrugged Dixon off like the bug he is.

Nice to get the win but probably a bit lucky. We pisfarted around with the ball a bit, Port seemed more efficient. Vardy and Lycett will be servicable if Nic doesn't get up to speed.
Gaff was very good as was Shuey, most of the young blokes eventually showed a bit. I hope Ahchee was just unsettled playing against his old team mates because he was ordinary. Ryan looked like a country footballer, he'll take awhile. Venables no doubt will get better but I think we can safely put the Venables/ SPP decision down as a f#*kup.

Ryan showed a lot while also being too cute at times. Missed a soda as well.
Ainsworth started slowly but was decent in the second half and took a good mark.
I'm so pumped for watching your mob round 1. Can't wait to see Ryan in the season proper.

Ryan was ok to good. Anus did a couple nice thing but not that influential.

How is my boy Hunter tracking?
There's been some pretty positive talk about him. They say he's clean with his disposal and is cracking in. There's some footage of the intraclub where he beat sinclair. Bit of a lucky bounce but he did well all the same. I'm warning to him!!!
