How does everyone rate our structure? Feel like we made lots of skill errors but the team moved the ball well. Apart from an obvious joe the goose goal we gave up in the 4th our defence held up well without Gov.

Simpson at least broke even today.

Looked nervous and tense to me.

Get that match up v Port out the way early could be a good thing.

Hopefully he gets up for JLT2 v the Purples.

Ainsworth. Promising debut.

He was solid for subi reserves last year. Big tree trunk type legs and long arms for ball reach.

He's a bonafine inside mid. Very good in close. Great with inside vision and excellent by hand. Disposal by foot over longer distances can be a bit iffy and will need work but he's surprisingly useful up forward and is good for a clutch goal or two.

I really hope he comes on this year and shows his wears. I rate him higher than sheed at the same age and I'm a big wrap for sheed.

Structures were a mess up forward.
Darling looked disinterested and Waterman had zero impact until the last quarter.
Vardy was the only tall contributing when he rested down there.
Backs were alright (mostly due to Sheppard). No doubt McGovern sitting out three quarters didn't help.
Barrass was decent and drew even with Dixon. Two of Dixon's goals were kicked on Schofield who sadly doesn't look up to it anymore.

JLT, playing Port and 58% game time. Will come back to this questions halfway through the season.

Watson was horrendous not up to AFL standard.
Venables needs to get involved a lot more doesn't get into the right positions enough when he is involved he has skill and poise just needs to find the pill.
Ainsworth while making a few errors i really like what i see will be a good quality player with a bit of gym work he has what it takes.
Waterman was ordinary but delivery to the forwards was the old typical bombs away surely we train to not do that so often its terrible and a bad trait we have had for ages.
Ah Chee was poor skills wise but effort was there needs to believe in himself more think there is a decent player there.
Ryan was hot and cold needs to be a bit more selective with his marking but will cause headaches to the opposition.
Cole very solid a lock for best 22 imo.

Experienced players were good mostly bar Schofield who was poor.
Redden and Gaff standouts

Yep, no clue. I was left just shaking my head at that. Terrible commentator.

Thought half of his game was very high quality and the other wasn't great at all. Was quite schizophrenic!!!

Moves a bit like a baby deer but agree with your thoughts. Did some nice things in the last 5 down back and looks too attack.

Perfect hit out. The win is nice, good habit to get into early. But what was really impressive was how we stood up to a fair bit of pressure. Make no mistake- Port came to win today, when you say pre-match that the season begins now you know it means something to them.

I was super impressed by Gaff and Redden today. Shuey was shuey- but Gaff and redden were really good all day. Gaff in particular looked to run and bounce; hopefully that continues this year.

Ryan did some nice things, as did DV, Ainswerth & Watson at times. Vardy also was good. Really liked Jettas game and that goal of his was electric. I’d love to see that round 1. And 2. And 3. And 4. Just makes things happen with ball in hand.

Our defence also held up really well considering we lost Gov to that cheap sho.. I mean bump. We adjusted well but it was our pressure up the field which helped.

Darling had better moments late but I expected a little bit more. Same with sheed, who I thought was ok without standing out. Maybe I expected too much first up. I may be expecting too much from a JLT game- but this really is his year. I hope he takes his game to another level this year.

Also, I didn’t think Port controlled the game as much as the commentators were saying, unless I was watching a different game? I thought it was really even.

Agree what was Dunnystool on about. We controlled 2nd half.

awful but played on a flank.
