We wont play all of natanui lycett and vardy

I also thought ainsworth has shown more than venables in this game + afl x

Agree we wont play all three in the main season but I can see all three getting a run in the final preseason game. Remember its a game to get the squad ready for game 1 and to get some match practice into as many best 26 players available.

almost forgot - this game was just another example that we should have traded Darling when his value was at its peak.
No Kennedy so Darling at 191 cm is supposed to be clunking big marks from bombs. Rubbish! His work rate was good, brought others into the play etc. he did drop a couple of sitters but plenty of others did too including our captain and several port players. It was a pre season game FFS. I will say tho that that particular Port player has a good record on Darling as he has the pace and size to frustrate his game

Were these the idiots I could hear during the game yelling and shouting like a bunch of dickheads? Came through super loud on Foxtel. Almost muted it.

Also have you contacted Port about that official? I saw him in the video on PerthNow you can see him in the polo, PA cap, with a badge on and a lanyard around his neck.

Disgusting that this BS still happens.

Yes they were haha.
When I got back and watched the foxtel replay I couldn't believe I had to put up with the Dheads voices all over again!!

Jetta down back behind the play worked really well.

Cole I thought did some good things and is well equipped to handle the smaller agile forwards.

Gaff played like he was free from last years injury he carried for half the season.

We looked much quicker and at least halved the ruck contest.

Vardy played well took a couple of big marks and kicked two.

Port wanted to win that but went home with their tails between their legs.

And that was after loosing Gov at quarter time.

So in essence we were without out 3 most structurally important players and depending on how you rank them 3 of our 4 best players and still beat port.

Great to see footy back, and the wings looked fantastic in the full royal. Beaut.

I want to caution everyone from expecting too much from some of the younger guys. For most of them, this is their first game of senior footy - Venables has barely played in a year, so not surprising his timing is a bit off. I'd say they'll all be better for the run and look to improve next week.

Ryan looked active, but disappointed he didn't slot the sealer. Still - I really can't wait to see he and Rioli working off Kennedy, Darling and our resting ruck crashing the pack.

Who has the inside track? Vardy or Lycett?

well said, the more dangerous forwards we have the less JD and JK will be triple teamed.

It makes me happy that finally, finally, Le Cras doesnt look to have a free pass or "credits in the bank" this year.

If either Rioli or Ryan are even half as good as we think that they are, i cannot see Le Cras getting a game. I had a good look at him yesterday and its just more of the same; he doesnt chase or tackle, and he gets around pretty half assed and is more concerned then anything these days at looking for a cheap goal via a hand off.

Its great to see that we finally would seem to have some selection pressure in our forward line.

Man has a good look and sees what he wants to see, colour me surprised.

Why exactly couldn't Ryan, Rioli and LeCras play in the same team?

Oh, I see. So we need to drop LeCras for Ryan, Cripps, Rioli or Edwards. Can't fit in 4 smalls when we have 5 that are demanding selection.
I'm not saying Lecras needs to be dropped but if Rioli plays well in JLT2 then they have a will have a selection issue. I dont think they can play all 4 and I think they will want Cripps left in for defensive pressure. The forward line needs to accommodate 2 talls, possibly a resting ruckman and usually a mid/HFF like Venables.

I get that, but didn't Simmo say something about emulating Richmond this year? I just took that to mean we'll play more smalls then usual.

Wasn't that impressed, actually made me pretty nervous for the season ahead. Redden looked good, looks like he is ready to take the next level up. Ryan's first crumbing goal was nice, that's what he should be doing, not waiting to take mark of the year every 5 minutes, but he'll learn that soon enough. I always heard Venables was a shuey clone, but didn't realize he was his twin in looks too. Couldn't tell the two apart. Vardy showed that Lycett isn't a straight walk up to the 22, right now, Vardy is ahead of Lycett.

It's really disappointing to hear a Port supporter made a racial slur.

The day was a great day out, with loads of representation in the crowd from the indigenous community, african blood and just about every other heritage. Then on the field you could see the Port and Eagles players shaking hands and chatting like long lost mates. Probably helped by Ebert and Ah Chee's switch of colours during their careers.

There was some attention in that part of the crowd in the third quarter with 5 bouncers making a bee line approach. Clearly the morons weren't satisfied with their poor behaviour and continued.

My guess is the Port supporter was a sore loser and my advice to him is "grow up".......and if you can't handle losing, then stop following football or watch it at home. Port may have lost but the only LOSER that day was YOU!

Thanks to the Eagles fans and club for putting on a great event. Thank you.

My thoughts on JLT:

Yeo looked like he could do very well in the midfield.
There was several passages of play where he would've looked even better but other players weren't switched on or just weren't on the same page.

Shuey played well, solid. Redden showed that he could step up this season, I really hope so.
Gaff played his role well. I think between Shuey, Yeo, Redden, Gaff and Jetta we may hold our own especially if we can get our rucks firing.
I think Sheed showed he could be in or a big one also. Duggan needs to step up although not sure on his actual TOG.

Gee Venables looked like a natural out there. The way he moves and runs.
Love the confidence with the ball.

Ah Chee was a dissapointment, hopefully shows more next JLT.
I would have Watson ahead of him based on being at the game and watching them.
Being at the game I could see that Watson was willing to chase often and put the work in to provide an option.

Darling had so many 'nearlys' - if he can just blow off the cobwebs and stick the marks then he could have some good hauls in the regular season.

Ryan looks like he could be something special, but he needs to pick his time to fly better.
I must say he was willing to chase also even if he wasn't always effective at the tackle.

Lycett played particularly well considering his long absence.
I thought Vardy did alright too and could provide a solid option around the 50.

Jetta Dardz!!!!!!

I hope we can manage Ryan's attitude when we discourage him from flying for speckies, and encourage him to stay down for the crumbs and apply defensive pressure.

He seems to be doing the latter well at this stage but I just really hope he continues with that attitude and doesn't one day decide he'd rather go have fun in the WAFL.

This is based on nothing other than his history of being less than keen on training and stuff.

Just think it'll be a bit of a juggling act for the coaches but you can see how much more threatening he is as a small forward than Fumbles McCripps
