Does it seem to others that our forwards are very reluctant to take shots from the 50? Darling was in the clear but elected to kick to a contest, and it seems West Coast are drilled to kick for the 'Kennedy zone' rather than take the responsibility. Other teams I watched this weekend just seem more dangerous and unpredictable when going forward despite the talent being pretty similar or worse.

Not sure where all the Venables love is coming from, he had one decent run of about 20 metres followed by a fairly loopy kick that barely made it to our forward and everyones creaming themselves. It was the same in AFL X - he was barely sighted. I'd love to see him dominate, but I think there's a shitload of hoping going on with him at the moment.

Yeah we appear incredibly Kennedy-centric which was my major concern from yesterday.

To many harshly judging this match being that is a scratch match with a fair few new faces playing in very humid conditions. Good way to get the cobwebs out early and not in round 1!

Personally i thought this was one of our better pre-season matches compared to the last few years where we just cruised around or just got pumped playing an extremely young team.

I will list the positives:

- Jack Redden: Great game and close to his best game in WC colours. Showed he can stick a tackle, absorb a tackle and get the ball out , took some marks in the midfield and kicked 1 goal and 1 behind. A good all round game and will go along way to helping Shuey out in the midfield.

- Yeo: Was hard to tell what position he was playing but he was everywhere and looked fit which was surprising as he missed a chunk of pre-season with a hip complaint.

- Shuey - Was classy all day. Loved how in the huddle he and Gaff were giving tips to his clone in Venables and trying to get him into the game.

I hope Vendables doesnt turn into a Koby Stevens 2.0

He has all the right attributes to be a good football player but struggles to find the pill.

Im not convinced. I liked a few things he has done and can see potential but also can see that it can fall quickly if he doesnt bring enough. Just needs to get more games in him and hopefully will see that game we know he can produce.

Bit harsh coming down on Venables so early - he's young and very inexperienced AFL wise - he needs time to get used to playing at this level.

Agreed. But he hasnt played a single AFL match yet so give him time.

We all crave that quick mid with skills

I think venables needs a couple of years of playing consistently before he will be a good player but he has the tools. Hopefully all the injury time out hasn't cruelled his development. (he's missed a lot of the last 3 years)

I do note this peanut is probably one of those who call their crosstown rival the KKKrows. Makes no sense & hopefully they get banned & if the person with him was a Port official he should be hauled over the coals.

Simmo needs to roll the dice imo and play Venables in the guts from day one. I barely saw him in the middle in that game or in the AFLX. I don't think he gets a game round one but he should play every game as mid for ep now and when he eventually breaks into the side, he needs to go through the middle.

To me shuey, Redden, Yeo and Sheed need to be our tier one inside mids. Then have ah cheers, Venables, Duggan and gaff as second tier mids.

Jetta and Yeo's goals were all class. Ryan's was nice also, but lets not talk about his miss...

God help us if we miss Kennedy for any length of time. Forward line just doesn't work that well without him. Bit of a duh comment... best forward in the league... of course they struggle when he isn't there.

Was happy with the hitout. Happy we kept pushing in the fourth to get over the line. Good signs, especially as it was a really warm humid afternoon. Lets not have any last quarter fade outs this year.

Port supporter dropped $5 on the way out and didn't notice. Gave it back to him. Supporter Karma scoreboard Eagles +1 Port -1.
