CBF melting over a preseason game. If the seniors are staying in first gear that's up to them I guess, but unfortunately they are not bringing the younger crew into the game. The ball hasn't been forward much, so the five up front (Waterman, Rioli, Ryan, Venables & Brander) haven't been able to have an impact.

Freo playing WC well though, apply enough pressure, run hard, and hit them on the turnover. Hope there is a better plan A waiting for the Swans in round one.

Of all the really really stupid rule interpretations that have cut a swathe through the competition and been quietly swept under the carpet by the middle of the season, the approach in this game to 50m penalties for getting to close to the man with the ball has to be the most enragingly stupid.

(Guy runs past in the middle distance minding his own business)

(Tweet! "50 metre penalty!")

As a unit we arent on at the moment but the main thing I've noticed in both JLT games is Darlings lack of effort, been going on for a few seasons but it's really obvious now.

Does he even want to be out there?

Cole has been thrashed. He's nowhere near it. Same with Venables - he's not close to fit enough for AFL. Redden 4 touches in a half. Masten, for all his faults, has been getting leather poisoning lately, and can run all day. Our mids have been pathetic.

Same story ( different year ) in the nitty gritty of where the games are won and lost.

At half time we trail in all three engine room KPI's.

Clearances we trail 21 -11
Stoppages we trail 15-7
Contested possessions we trail 77-60

Sound like a familiar tale of woe from the last three seasons.

So refresh my memory because I am finding it difficult to remember what was it we have done over the past two seasons to improve our midfield.

Its going to be a long season.
