We should just play Yeo at HB ...we need midfielders but Yeo gives us structure at HB .
Try the kids in the midfield , Jetta on the wing .
We could be in for a tough year .

Anyone can play halfback and he is required to step up as a midfielder. If the club puts him back to half back they are conceding they have nothing and are just trying to limit the margins in games.
Jetta on a wing is a good idea, he has played about 80 AFL games there and still has not cemented it as his own.

Agree it could be a tough year.

Weird how different the efforts were from first JLT to the second. Plenty of defensive run and actual tackling in the first game, which was a good hitout too.

Freo haven't trained since JLT 2 hence why they were so good..

We don't really have many guys fighting for round 1 spots either, makes it easier for guys to cruise through.

Our forward structure was terrible without a decent target at FF.

Anyway, the boys can suck up that performance and better put their heads down over the next two weeks or they will get thrashed round 1.

You could tell Simo wasn't impressed with that 3rd rter interview with Pav, all but gave a don't argue as he walked by.

Thought the boundary riding by Pav was very pro Freo today, better get a ex Eagles player to balance things up by before the real thing.

I feel that game was just so bad that it's not at all a reflection of where we're at.

I would have liked our mids to try a bit harder given the label they have against them.
You see a team like Geelong with their mids who go half arsed you know they have another level to them and they don't need any more improvement.
But our mids should be looking to improve at every opportunity, and against a decent Freo team they should have done more.

But given just how bad we were I'm sure there was more at play.
Perhaps we are in a heavy workload right now so didn't want to do too much work.
Perhaps it's just self-preservation given we've had a few injuries.
I can't think we have any secrets in terms of a new gameplan because I don't think we've had too many closed sessions, and most of the training reports indicate standard structures.

I felt in the first 10min we were 'ON', a lot of chasing and tackling, kicking well and generally going in hard.
But once Freo got on top we just put the cue in the rack for the next 3.5 qtrs.

There were some glaring issues from the stats which just show the lack of effort

41 less marks
31 less tacks
27 less i50s
700 less SuperCoach points

Effort was just not there at all.

Well the club can worry about that in about 10 weeks, he is the obvious player to go to the midfield and if he can’t be solid there then how on earth is he getting all Australian honours as a half back. He needs time first in the midfield. Duggan and Sheed are not the answer.

Watched the 2nd and 3rd quarter. It had the lot. Fumbled marks, fumbled ground balls, skill errors, poor decision making in transition. Unable to transition through the Dockers press at all. It was a hot day and a bit greasy but jesus christ.

Before that game, I didn’t even contemplate sacking Simpson. I defended him and big big supporter. That was up until 4pm this after noon.

If that’s what we dish out in two weeks I do worry for his job. That was terrible and yes it was preseason but gee, we have lots of improving to do.
