I thought the rumour was that we're over coached so the guys can't play their natural game. Whether it's the coaching or the guys on the field nothing seems to change as far as the game plan goes. We seemed to spend half the game yesterday kicking it long out of the backline straight to whichever ruckman was being covered by Sandilands only for it to come straight back in when they were inevitably outmarked
Well that's not very bright - surely after a couple of times when you know that doesn't work, you would try something different.

Because their club is built on a culture of failure and the supporters have to take any minor victory they can in order to find the will to get out of bed in the morning.

If we beat them in a derby this year watch all the peacocking turn in "pfft, of course they'd get up for their grand final".

While it's fun to rag on opposition supporters, I think we lack a bit of self awareness in that we carry on exactly the same way as they do when the roles are reversed. This whole "culture of failure" angle just makes us sound like knobs.

Yeah those three years of tanking and getting beaten by 100 points , while trading in average players like Matera, Kersten, Bennell and McCarthy, have really brought success to Fremantle.

Has this board gone nuts? It's a ****ing preseason game FFS and now everyone is talking about how good a position Fremantle are in? What the actual ****.

We played like garbage yesterday and I'd like answers as to why, but talking about how "great" freo are certainly isn't an answer

Its our lack of goals which is an issue, and we can't continue to rely on Kennedy as the day will come when he retires. We need somebody else to sand up and for the midfielders to be able to get the ball into the forward line. From what I've heard not too much of this is being done.
I agree, the lack of scoring is my main worry in this preseason and I totally blame the mids.
I hate seeing the forwards always blamed when a team fails to score. The media look at a few stats and the team total and blame the forwards.

I was at the JLT game yesterday and what I saw was a centre bounce, Freo running it out of the midfield and then the ball stuck down Freo's end most of the game. I was behind the goals at one end, so it was glaringly obvious our mids couldn't get it into the forward line.

If we had the best 6 forwards of all time in our forward line yesterday it would not have mattered all that much, since they would have been in our backline with the rest of the 36 players on the ground.

Time to put on your superman cape and polish your Cups

Its a historic fact. May well change, but ist a fact. They have just pulled out all stops to beat a team with 6-7 kids yet to play AFL in a practice game.

Ok i have a few sources floating around and spoke to 2 of them, 1 said there was no structure because they were told to go play some footy dont worry about game plan worry about run in the legs, Our attacking game plan has changed and we saw it in 2 plays 1 resulted in a waterman mark the other in a ryan shot on goal.

The other said no concern at all because Yeo was a HF a lot and Shuey was a wingman the whole game, Gaff wasnt running as hard because why blow your legs up for a JLT game?

I'm feeling pretty positive after finding these out tbh

I think the praise for fremantle was centered around their enviable A grade midfield talent, also the way they've nabbed a few quality players for peanuts.

Harley, Kersten, McCarthy, Taberner, and their forward line in general are clearly still a laughing stock.

Also why show the same team you played a week earlier your game plan?

Yeah, naaaah.

When their club stops being a joke and actually wins a premiership I'll stop ragging on 'em.

Maybe.

Probably not.

It's also a historic fact that they made a much better fist of their recent grand final than we did. Historical facts are often just parochial BS. You just sound terrified that they might be successful and it says a lot more about you than them.

I don't cop this whole "its a pre-season match"

Players don't go to training and put in 25%. You play how you train and a pre-season match is a type of training.

There is not 4 points or a finals berth on the line, but it is a rehearsal for the season. Pretty poor effort by all...

With JK out for the first few weeks, do we swing Gov forward to cover him? Barrass can hopefully hold down the back line?

Would be an easier call with EMac available, but not sure we have another tall back to replace Gov with.

Found some interesting stuff in the Freo review thread:

Should be noted that most people in the thread disagreed with them, but still, you don't hear "Hamling > McGovern" everyday.

Are you really surprised? If brains were dynamite most of them would struggle to blow their nose.

Freo haven't been a joke for a while now. A couple of their players maybe...some of their fans definitely, but that's no different to every other club.

In fact they've done much lately that our supporters seem to be crying out for our club to do.

I'd go as far as to see that our supporters are sounding that much more shrill lately precisely because Freo aren't a joke anymore and we're just using the lack of a premiership as the last thing we can hold up to say that we're the popular kids.

I'm going to stop now, but I've just had it up to here with posts decrying Freo fans for being obsessed with us when our fans are just as obsessed with them. Posting about it is cathartic.

Im still waiting for Partington to turn into Lachie Neale. Pfft
His fall down the pecking order this preseason seems a concern.

Or am I reading too much into it, and that his being selected for East Perth instead was with the view of maximising game time?
