Nah we didn't - we traded to get Allen, Ryan and Petrucelle.

Also, edited for accuracy
We will have to keep reminding people of this the entire year. Losing a top pick is definitely worth it for 3 draft potentials.

Petrucelle alone could end up as good as the pick we gave away. Then you add Ryan and Allen and we did ok.

Not sure if serious but too knackered after a long weekend to care

Completely serious.

I'm not convinced about Allen yet but I am happy to get Petrucelle and Ryan for that pick. If Allen lives up to the hype, it could be a great trade.

Surely McInnes has to be a KPF with Kennedy out, and until he comes back.

If this is the way we go - tell McInnes to hit packs hard, bring ball to ground and then get LeCras to put ground level pressure on......................

Oops just realised the folly of my plan.

Seriously Ryan and Rioli (needs more durability for mine) could feed off the ground ball stuff.

That could work but Ryan would be up on Frasers shoulders

Who knows where we will finish. We really can't appraise the trade until we know what pick and what players we miss out on.

In all honesty it will play out and we'll know the real results in 4-5 years time. I was not a fan of drafting Oscar Allen and i made that point pretty loudly so we will see.

If the player picked by gold coast is a consensus pick and they fail to be an A grader while we get at least 2 serviceable players out of the trade we win. If they get an A grader and we get a couple of serviceable players it doesn't look great. However on paper what is likely roughly a 10-12 downgrade and pick pick 50 for 4 second round picks makes a lot of sense.

3 second round picks and 1 third.

On paper, yes, but given who we picked, our list requirements, and our likely decline as we adapt to life without Priddis and Kennedy, it might prove to be costly.

See my earlier post about this to get my angle on it https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/when-will-we-win-our-next-flag.630868/page-5#post-54527913

I had a serious discussion with my friend John Walker last night about our JLT2 performance. I'm now feeling most reassured that it was a blip on the radar and that JLT1 is a much better reference point on where we are at.
Is he related to Johnny Walker? Cause I watched the second half with him. And it was better.

i watched the second half with my old sailing buddy, Captain Morgan and then needed to go see my mate Charlie after the game was over.

How's the calf doing Harley?

Ironically I think Allen is by far the best talent of the three.

I think some might undervalue the benefit of us having added three extra draftees last year in the top 40 (rather than just us 13 and 32). That said, it's a shame none of those three are mids (yet).

Who is the midfielder people would have wanted us to take either after Brander or with that pick? Jack Higgins ? Ling, Bailey or Richards? Would Tim Kelly at 21 been overs? Not a heap of talent that is jumping out at me.

Higgins would have been a great pick up but the reality is we need Brander almost as much as we need a mid. Bailey was probably a stretch that early and Ling/Richards are flankers first.

21 for Kelly would have been overs. I suspect we thought Allen would be gone by 21 and that we could have chosen from Starcevich or Wil Powell. The other midfield contender was Lachlan Fogarty. Personally I'm comfortable with that pick.

I think we went early on Ryan at 26. Worpel or Constable were probably the more appropriate picks given our list needs, but evidently we rated Ainsworth above both. Time will tell on that one.

Petrucelle I personally had little time for but he impressed me during AFLX with his attack and willingness to compete. There is something to work with there.

After days of questionable thoughts on why we performed so pathetically against our cross town rivals I have finally deduced a theory.
We were just keeping our cards close to our chests and not letting our real game plan or playing style out for all to see.

Against Port we tried a little bit of a strategy that seemed to go ok but then against Freo we tried something different that didn't go so ok.

My theory is that we have a different plan up our sleeves that the guy's have been working on behind closed doors that they are excited and confident about and didn't want to expose it for the rest of the competition to see. There is a different set up now with more youth and some exciting forwards that we need to utilise and being a positive person I would like to believe we will.
