The silver lining to Gaff's brain fade has been Sheed's transformation from a guy who was dropped three times in 2018 to arguably the best player in the comp since then. A period that included the greatest goal in the history of the game 14 more touches than anyone else on the ground is insane!

A good point! Makes you wonder what the outcome would be if Gaff didn't hit Brayshaw?
So the Gaff hit was arguably a great (unplanned) tactical and developmental manoeuvre...

Some magic up forward for sure. A few time I swa a mid fielder moving like a Rolls Royce with great skills then I reasised it was Brander- some class.

Sheed development doesn't progress, lost the grand final and there would of been a greater chance that Gaff would be wearing the blue and white this year

But if last year tells us anything, it's that we can't read too much into this.

Thoughts after watching a bit of the game:

-I disagree with those saying that we didn't get out of second gear. I saw us hit third a few times
-Brander was impressive playing on Rory. Showed some evasiveness
-O.Allen should of kicked three goals easily but missed that easy mark. I would have been paid out handsomely. Always looks likely though. Probably -needs to be a bit better defensively.
-Shuey is a step above even in limited time
-McGovern is rusty.
-Yeo looks good even in 2nd gear.
-Did what we have to against Freo and Geelong.
-Our defensive structure is still one of the best in the competition.
-Eagles are paying 1.90 to make the top 4.
-Petch is so close yet so far. I think it will take years before he becomes what we think he will become.
-After worrying about Ryan all preseason, I've stopped worrying about Ryan.
-Willie Rioli will kick 35+ goals this season.
-Tom Barrass is close to my favorite player.
-Lewis Jetta reads the vectors so well.
-O.Allen was paying 51-1 for the rising star when i got on im 2-3 weeks ago. He'll play 15+ games this season similar to Waterman last season.
-I like the arrogant mongrel in McGovern.

Bring on 2019.

This is what makes this game so good...from all those little nuances of the bouncing oval ball to lady luck and the footy gods...If Gaff was in the GF and Sheed out, who knows if we would've won or not, how it would've panned out with Gaff - he might've helped set up 1 or two other goals or kicked them himself. He definitely would've impacted the game differently, but to what effect?
Happy to have a Flag, Sheed improves massively, and Gaff comes in..
Ah, that average midfield with no stars, even better this year from the early signs...
loving it!

Nah, Richmond were pretty dominant last year and only fouled up the Prelim.
Pre-season dominance =\= finals exits.

I love Redden's ability in the congestion to use his body and quick reflexes to trap the ball, block opponents and perform deft touches.
Is he sort of like this team's Stenglein? As in a great pick up from another team who fills an important gap in the team structure.

For years we would get players who had performed well against us but when drafted didn't live up to expectations.
Off the top of my head players like Taylor Merenda Dalzeill, whereas Yeo and Vardy were a steal.

Might be an idea for a thread.
