What has personal performance got to do with team performance? Do you not agree that maybe other factors are at play here? Or is your brain so tiny that it cannot possibly comprehend anything else but a straight and narrow road?

Mate, he's whining. Any football fan knows that very good or great players can and do exist in poor sides. The very fact it was said is the BigFooty version of a temper tantrum.

And lay off the personal attacks, ffs its soooo tough.:o

Lady. Netball. Yeah, that really cut to the bone.

Next he'll be telling me his Dad can beat up my Dad.

Watson has improved more over the last 2 years than Murphy. Watson has significant scope to improve his field kicking which is getting better every year.

Murphy probably hit his ceiling in 2009 and never have a better year as long as he keeps front-running and refusing to go after the contested ball.

Take your Essendon blinkers off mate. Watson is 26 and been in the system for 8 years so the chances of him improving his footskills to above average are pretty slim. I admire Watson because he's aware his kicking can be a weakness so he handballs as much as possible, Cross is another player who does a similar thing...

Murphy will always be a front runner but he's just as likely to turn that around as Watson will his kicking and I'll always go for the guy that can hurt you by foot (even if he's a cat) over the hard working accumulator.

Bad example, the class was in the movement before he kicked. The actual shot was something I've seen Watson and many others with similar degree's of foot-skills, (under average) achieve many times.

Wouldn't call him an accumulator. Woewodin, or Stanton are accumulators. Sells him a fair way short even comparing him to the Cross/Sewell types.

He's a play-making inside midfielder. He had nothing to pass to last year with Winderlich struggling. If he was digging it out to a Montagna or Cyril/Burgoyne class he'd look a hella lot better.

His skills aren't bad, now. They're not great, but he wastes a hell of a lot less kicks than people seem to think he does, now, and his hands are as good as anyone. 2006, he was shocking.

Haha Correct :thumbsu:

It's Watson by a mile. Reminds me a bit of Sam Mitchell in his prime
Not as quick with the hands, not as manic, not as polished a kick or as quick/effective a linkman but smarter with the ball & sets up a bit more, IMHO.

Current form you just can't take Murphy.
Had a down year, I actually don't mind him altho he's been played more on a flank than mid so far.
On 'potential' and 'upside', who knows.

Murphy actually had quite a good season and some ripper games despite having absolutely no preseason.

To say that Murphy has played more on a flank than as a mid is absolutely laughable, he is a pure mid who can play on a flank if required but does not spend much time there.

And on 'potential' and 'upside', well I'd take the one who is 2 1/2 years younger.

This poll reflects how far the bombers have slipped in the last 5 years that they even rate a player like watson. good ordinary footballer that's all.

Calling Watson a good ordinary footballer shows how little you actually know about football.

That would make Judd a good player - nothing more. Would make 99% of your list well below average. Take the blinkers off sunshine.

Murphy is a quality player, and someone who I would love in my side - however for me, I'd prefer Watson in my side to Murphy, but would love both.

Murphy would complement Watson beautifully.

spot on.

Watson importance to Essendon is huge. He is the player who, when we needed someone the most to the step up and lead he has done it in spades, Watson is not as gifted as half the players in the AFL, yet he just keeps working at his game and is becoming a wonderful Essendon player.
The 1 thing I truley admire about Watson is his courage, He will put himself in the firing line time and time again, just to give his team the advantage.
from his 1st game till now, he has become better then all of us Essendon fans could have expected.

Yep. Like I said. Watson ahead at the end of last year and improving faster than Murphy. The gap will only get bigger in Watson's favour.

Could you imagine Judd and Murphy having to carry the whole midfield on his back like Watson did last year? Cannot see it. Jobe is miles ahead.
