This probably belongs in another thread - but if I would pay good money to find out which idiot thought it was clever to start calling goals "Majors". This has taken over every commentator in the last couple of years, and I have no idea why.

Commentators have been referring to goals as majors for as long as I recall, and that is 50 odd years.

It was common back in my childhood for a goal to be referred to as a major score and a behind a minor score. Even then commentators would often abbreviate it to a “major” for a goal and a “minor” for a behind.
