Well being away for a day or so and couldnt get on until now and i just thought i would get a bit off my chest, hopefully you guys can give me some feedback as to how things are going.
First off, a terrible display against Port has really hammered home the point that we are serious contenders for the spoon. After round 4 i thought we could easily avoid it but now i realise that we could very well end up with it.
Not one winner on the field against Port on sunday and perhaps only a couple who even looked like they were trying. Cousins, Wirri, Kerr, Collica, Fletcher and a few others tried hard but there was little anyone could do. And the final scoreline doesnt reflect what really happened, Port should have won by 150 points.
Our club is cursed with injury as again many players went down and i was in disbelief when Morrison went on for the final 6 minutes hobbling around because we simply had nobody else to go on.
Then to look on the brighter side of things for a minute we have lost games we really should be loosing, i mean 2-2 and then 4 games against the top 4 clubs in the comp. Richmond, Essendon, Port and now Hawthorn. These are games we are supposed to lose anyway. Although i do think we could show a little more character in losing them, little more good news in knowing Wirrpunda and Gardiner will be around for a little while yet.
Back to the bad news.....Hawthorn. Unbeaten and looking very strong on top of the ladder. I dont think we can beat them and i think this game is a little bit about damage control and trying a few new things.
Time to start blooding the kids, Humm has earnt a run, Gasper HAS to play, and others like Buszcan, Green, Hunter, Munro, Haynes have to look at being used to see if they are gonna be around in the coming years. With Prior gone and Harding and Carroll absolute duds we need to play the kids.
Hopefully a couple of +'s are the return of Braun and hopefully Embly, they will be good if injury stays away, with Cummings and Glass not far away and Gardiner and Matera probably to come back into the side we should field a reasonble side for the game against the Hawks. Not sure on the status of Milli, Morrison, Kemp or Merenda.
Now to onfield problems and the main one of course being Jakovich. There is no way Jako will be able to keep up with the quick forward line that the Hawks posess so without a doubt he will have to go forward and present himself and hopefully find something...anything.
Wirrpunda as someone said is a ball watcher, he possesses unparallel skills and has to be given a run on the ball. Let him utilize those skills rather that wasting him in defence. Now i know his run out of defence has been instrumental in our attack this year but he runs with it out of attack and kicks to half forward where we fall down all the time. So instead let him run out of the middle and have him kick straight over the problem area and straight onto the chest of Wilson or Joey.
But with Milli and Morrison probably not playing and moving Jako and Wirrpunda out of defence where does that leave our defence. No Read or Glass due to injury and we have nobody?Harding and Carroll may have to come back into the team to play in defence.
I think our team should look like this against Hawthorn but it may have to be tooled with during the game and Jako and Wirrpunda may have to go back.
This team is considering that Morrison, Milli, Kemp, Merenda are probably not going to play. Also others in Italics that are questionable for the game.
FB Gaspar Carroll Collica
HB Matera Turnball Embly
C Braun Taylor Wirrpunda
HF Williams Jakovich Jones
FF Matera Wilson Fletcher
R Gardiner Cousins Banfield
Int Kerr Cox Hunter Chambers
Thats the best i could do?
Thoughts on anything i have said.
