So... Barrett has changed his tune. Daniher engineered the whole situation, the Swans didn't approach him, the Swans weren't aware he was going to nominate us as a destination for a trade, we offered something reasonable and the reason the trade never happened was because Dodoro was never going to accept anything other than overs.

That's a far cry from what he was saying during trade week.
You mean, the Bombers fans being dramatic here and having a bitch about Harley luring across a contracted player just to fail to do so were off the mark? I am SHOCKED.

Give it a week and Barrett will be back ripping Harley.

Last week was anti-Sydney and he got the Essendon nuffie clicks.

This week is anti-essendon and he gets the Sydney nuffie clicks.

He is an oxygen thief in both weeks.

You mean you actually believe anything written by Barrett? I am SHOCKED.
This is as close you get to a public apology without actually apologising for the muppet way Barrett carried on during and after trade week making statements that now turned out completely wrong. Daniher was just not a need for us in 2020 which is why Swans supporters couldn't understand what was going on.

The whole approach to move to Sydney was by Joe Daniher who appears desperate to get out of the Melbourne public and media glare. This is why very late in the piece we heard Dododoro say "we hope to make Joe fall in love with Essendon again", it was the first we'd heard about the relationship being in trouble. Barrett's revelations about the phone conversation after the failed bid says it all. I genuinely feel for Joe because every breath he takes this year is being watched closely, it will be a circus. Wouldn't be surprised to see him take a break from the game.

All the best to Joe with whatever he chooses to do.

I don't, but a few seconds thought would have told you it wouldn't have made much sense for Sydney to actively tap up a chronically injured player in a position of the ground where they have the most depth and when it would cost a lot to get him.

I'm not treating Barrett's article as fact. But Bombers fans in here repetitiously referred to he and others implying that Sydney had sold Daniher the idea of the move and then failed to get it done to bitch and moan about Harley.

Also if the trade was seriously being considered before the Papley trade request, why would we not agree to put pick 5 on the table? Essendon fans might think we were trying to rip them off, but there is literally zero chance we were entering the trade period with this idea that we could package up some non-first round picks for Daniher.

Barrett is a legitimate shitstain. Complaining that we wouldn't up our offer all week, yet suggesting we should give back pick 25 for Papley. Absolute moron and I still have literally no idea why he's given a platform.

He's a journalist, not a ******* expert. It's ridiculous that for two weeks we've had to have his bullshit opinions forced down our throats if we just wanted to keep up with what was going on.
Then maybe Dodoro should have walked away from proceedings, rather than letting them play out until the last day. The fact that you think it says anything about Harley is indictment on how gullible you are to believe anything that Damian Barrett says.

The only thing that will shut Barrett up is Joe playing well and Essendon winning. At the moment if neither happen he is justified as being correct. If we do well in 2020 he was still correct at the time of the article and Essendon have managed to turn it around. Its a no lose situation for him to write the article.

If we take what Barrett has written as true then I don't think it painted Essendon as the villain. Sydney were surprised Daniher nominated them, Essendon were surprised and hurt that Daniher wanted out. Sydney wanted to wait until 2020 when their position was stronger but came to the table because Joe had declared, Essendon didn't want to lose Daniher and would only consider it if Sydney paid through the nose. Sydney weren't prepared to do that when they were better placed in 12 months to get him potentially for nothing.

Joe doesn't seem in a good place and maybe that's the frustration of the past 24 months. It looks like he's made a few mistakes in trying to make the move happen. If his management were in the dark on much of his thoughts and intentions then that's not a great sign.

The point is that until games start in March all that Barrett can do is write negative articles. Its his job.

It's the age of clickbait journalism.

Ironically, in trying to get out from under the microscope, Joe has intensified scrutiny tenfold and yes Barrett will milk it.

This will be milked dry and it has the potential to snowball unless Essendon and Joe start the season well.

It's easy to look at the motivations of Purple. He wants to sell stories.

He was annoyed at Harley for not getting the inside story / or more information to sell more of a story. So he ripped into him and the swans the during trade week.

Post-trade week, he has had a chat to Harley. Now selling the other story.

End of the day who cares neither club were happy with a deal so we wait till next year. Only muppets believe Purple when he says if you chase a player (or player nominate you) you must get them.

Barrett was a loony toon during trade week, I was actually embarrassed for him.

His perceptions around trades was totally out of line with every other person in the industry. Let's not forget he said he didn't see how West Coast could possibly get the Tim Kelly trade done and that Tim Kelly would have to go to Fremantle. Turns out it was the first trade to be completed.
That's Barrett's job. He works for an entertainment company.

Surprise surprise Essendon of all clubs not giving a shit about player welfare.
How did you reach that conclusion?

Over the course of trade week until now, Barrett has blamed each person and group for the trade not happening. He is a negative flog and just needs someone to fire at... if no such person exists he will fire randomly at anyone.

I hate Australian media. It's more about getting attention than it is about getting stories right. Of all things we should learn from US sports is they use smaller channels to get stories out that are much more accurate and people counter quote those for themselves.

In Australia we have too many people wanting to get the same attention. It's pathetic

Don't blame Barrett. You know what his job is. He's a scab. He relys on one thing...access.
He will do or say anything to keep sweet with clubs, namely VIC clubs. That's his bread and butter.

Why don't bomber fans look closer to home. One of the reasons that dodo bloke cops criticism is because he finds it all just too damn hard to keep a secret. That is, to negotiate in good faith. Can't even do the basics. Zero integrity.
He must think that shovelling morsels to the scabs and getting ex players in the media to do his bidding is a winning formula. No wonder Dons are always behind the eight ball when it comes to trade time. Who the hell would want to tell them anything when it will be sugar coated and immediately fed out the back door within minutes. Their table deliberately leaks like a sieve.

How about that wannabe scab Matthew Lloyd. Very first thing second week it just so happens he's on trade radio saying he KNOWS what Sydney were offering....and trying to do the Dons bidding for them. Coincidental timing wasn't it Lloydy. Been chatting over the weekend maybe ? Got a call ? He wasn't even bothering to hide the fact he should NOT know anything FOR SURE.
Of course it turned out to be utter bullshit but that isn't the point is it.

Did anyone see Sydney deliberately leak utter junk ? As a matter of fact did anyone see any other club try this low brow junk ? Despite Carlton being keen on a trade that was never going to be easy, they maintained integrity and didn't try to bullshyt their way thru the media.

Plus, who the hell can be happy when they hear the number 1 priority of their club during TRADE week is to retain players. WTF. Daniher wax contracted...its not rocket science to set a price of $100,000 for an old car worth $5000. Its not difficult to NOT sell something. That's all they did. Don't need Einstein for that. So what about what the club actually needs ?

Bizarre place. Yeah now i can see why clubs hate dealing with them.
