Recommitted Joe Daniher 2019 [requested a trade to Sydney - didn't get there]

Good, want Dodo to play such hard ball we say seeya next year. Daniher is not a positional need for us in 2020, will cost too much in picks and salary AND he's hardly played in two years. The majority of Swans supporters seem to feel the same as me, we don't need another KPF, we need quality mids.

Best decision really. Daniher won't have a preseason, will be rehabilitating next year. Let Essendon and their medicos do all the hard yards, pay him whilst he's getting form back, then take him as a RFA. Far better result for Swans.

Yes Sydney can gain some of the advantage back about paying overs, or even offload aging Parker late picks for Daniher leaving you with picks to get the midfielders you want...
Aging Parker...? We're all aging, how old do you think he is?

Yeah but these things are not something you can just wind and deliver when you like. If a club romances a player to change clubs it's a dose of cold water to say, yeah we want you but next year when you're cheap. IF Daniher is the guy then the Swans are best off to get him when they can get him

Waiting for the cheapo option may lose the player, certainly can send a message that the clubs commitment to getting the player is qualified and conditional. The player may wel nbot be available next year, another club may strike, a new coach at his odl club, jump up the laddder performances could rekindle the love at his currnet club.

If your chasing a premuim fancise player you are serious about long term., you get them whenever you can get them. Counting the pennies and waiting is a strategy for failure. If Daniger is the Guy, getting signed sealed and delivered is the priority getting him cheap in the future is a risk.

I hear what you're saying and there is something to it, but I guess the Swans did "romance" Bud for a year before taking him in FA.

Luke Parker is 26, about to hit the peak of his career.

Hardly aging.

Daniher had the surgery ages ago and is already back to light running, the reason why he was in Sydney in the first place (when he met with TH) was he was catching up with his surgeon for a post surgery update........considering Preseason is still ~2-3 months away im unsure why he wont have a preseason. He certainly wont be rehabbing next season...

Sounds like baseless conjecture.

We prefer facts in here.

not really.

most clubs who go for contracted players tend to pay overs. like us for Shiel for example.

All depends on if we think we can get Danihers body right.

Pick 4 + Pick 8 (Carlton) for Joe Daniher + 2nd rounder.

That is a great deal for both clubs.
Swans have 2 gun mids in their academies coming through next year.

Reckon a future second would probably interest them more for the points needed next year.

Pick 4 + Pick 8
For
Joe Daniher + 2020 2nd round pick

The biggest win for GWS was the Blues. Shiel was a chance to flip late which forced dodo's hand.

yep. if and when shiels learns to kick he'll probably be worth it.

until then we paid overs

Pick 4 + Zak Jones
For
Daniher + 2020 second round pick

Not a chance in hell Sydney cough up two first rounders for him when is a free agent next season.

Wouldn't have thought we have a need for zach jones. We already have our backline sorted and thats his position. If we lose daniher we need a substitute KPF, not another running backline player.

And even if we did, i very much doubt we give up daniher + a second round pick for that deal. he is a restricted free agent next year so have every chance to match the deal. Although unlikely because clubs seem to never enforce, its still there for us.

If we lose him our 2020 season is already over, 2021 will only be saved with Jeremy Cameron as FA and I'd give us a 5% chance of getting that done.

If we are losing Joe, I'd rather go rebuild as opposed to top up.

End of the day you still made finals without him with some decent players missing games.

This is not the off season posting we are used to.

We have big holes we need to fill to take that top 4 step and then the next step of winning the flag. Adding potentially the biggest hole to fill in the game an elite tall forward would be disastrous.

Collingwood may win it this year but if they don't I bet it's that final piece again, the Tom Lynch they were desperate for.

Imagine in a sick world the pies could convince Joe to go to them, they'd be almost unstoppable.

and we haven't been able to see it.
So we take all the risk off you. maybe he is done as some reports say & your club has orchestrated this move to clear him off your cap.
Maybe we will pay that last year of his contract & have said to him we'll take the chance on you for another 3 years on top of that but only at 500K per season once this contract is over. Something doesn't add up & the Bombers weren't very surprised publicly when Joe was sprung meeting Harley.
It may be true that his groins are done as 5 games or so in 2 years is not ideal. That player is not worth a first or even second round pick. The fit Joe Daniher from 2017 definitely worth two first round picks, but he was also 23 & unbroken.

Too much at play behind the scenes here & we are all speculating as bad as each other. Why don't we just let it play out. He may well just stay a Bomber because you won't accept our pick 40 for a player that we think is a huge risk & go on & play nearly every game in the next 5 years for you & win 4 Coleman Medals. He might stay broken & on 700K for 5 years.
Hope not for his sake.

The whole point of this forum is to speculate, waiting for facts is boring.

Sorry Dylan, I know you signed up as we promised you success, but we are going to rebuild now..
