Hadn't really noticed how tall Joel is until I saw him standing next to Roan.
There's only 12cm difference but it looks more to me.
Maybe Joel should be measured again. When do boys stop growing?

Getting more excited as the PS progresses with Cocka, could be a bonus, has size and speed and just what we need down back, reminds me of a hybrid J. Clement & S. Morwood (for those of my vintage)

Could be his best preseason ever.

Now all he needs to do is play well

With his debut on the horizon I was looking for the fundamentals in his game yesterday.

He is still a long way from properly ready or taking a spot from Howe or Frampton, but I don’t think he’s any worse defensively than Dean and held his own well enough when isolated yesterday against some experienced talls (aside from the moment v Dursma). The big issue I saw was that he’s a deer in the headlights when the play is in motion with hot potato the order of the day. That being said I think he can build on that with time at the level unlike say Parker who burns it on both fast and slow play.

It’s before his ideal time, but at least we aren’t going super small asking IQ and Maynard to both play tall when we'll be stretched as it is v St Kilda’s smalls.

he must have spread that all round because i didnt really notice that his frame had put on that much, Hayes on the other hand, you can see he has thickened up , especially in his legs
Look at his upper body, thats where he has added on the size. His shoulders.

why not, he will have the benefit of the weight and strength gain without the knee injury, win win
If only it were that simple! My best guess is that doing it over one pre-season risks unearthing other stress related issues ala JDG’s groins necessitating a changed running gate and creating achilles issues.

Sure if you’re ok with pulling a 19yo out of the football program for 6 months to build up the beach muscles let’s go for it, but I’m personally happy with his development. Ultimately not everyone will do a Hayes and handle a spike in body mass in a short period of time. Everyone’s built differently and I reckon Wade and co have earnt our trust.

The last thing is he’s 19. He could be absolutely smashing protein shakes and the running needs of AFL are preventing the mass. It’ll come.

why do you feel the need to go to the extreme case to support your view
i meant do extra gym work that has clearly worked for Reefs body development, didnt think it was that complicated

Because the extreme case would be necessary for Cochran to gain the physique of Reef. Football players burn an insane amount of calories on a weekly basis through games and training so it's incredibly rare to the point of impossible for any meaningful weight gain during the season.

Reef gained all that weight because his knee injury necessitated him not being in a position where he's doing a huge amount of aerobic workouts.

Also consider that Cochran is like 5 years younger than Reef so he's going not going to have a similar physique anyway.
