After arguably his best game for the year, Corey will run out in the hoops this week in a huge game in front of a loving crowd at Kardinia in his 250th game.

Achievements:
- AFL premiership player 2007, 2009, 2011
- All-Australian 2007, 2008
- AFL preseason premiership player 2006, 2009
- International Rules representative 2004
- Hall of Fame Dream Team representative 2008
- Geelong Best and Fairest 2005, 2008

Underrated Champion.

I remember all the talk about how great Ablett was in 2008 (and rightly so), yet it was Joel Corey who won our best and fairest.

Such an underrated player outside the club but not inside it.

Fantastic with his workrate on the field and how he conducts himself off the field, extremely good role model for the young players.

Hopefully we can give him a win in his milestone game.

In fact, he has more outright BnFs than Ablett (who one outright, one shared). He has the SAME number of BnFs as Selwood, Bartell, Champan and Stevie J COMBINED.

What a champion footballer Joel Corey is! So often he just continues to sneak under the rader for you guys and gets the job done week in week out. My favourite player in the AFL. A big Congrats on his 250th game! :thumbsu::)

What a fantastic CV. A Geelong champion.
Hope he has a corker in front of the faithful and the cats have a win in his milestone game.
Well Done JC.

It looks clear at the moment that Smithy will be a bit of a forgotten man among the stellar 1999 draft class, with Ling, Chapman and Enright earning more plaudits than him, especially in recent years. I'd say that's extremely unfair and that if you measured their careers like a boxing match, JC would probably come out on top.

Feels like I've said this a dozen times, but have a look at Joel Corey's career against a couple of players the wider football community would probably consider set in stone hall of famers, and tell me he looks out of place in that company:

Player 1
Games: 256
Goals: 86
AA: 03, 05, 09
B&F: 03, 10
Club captain: 04, 07
NS Medal: 10

Player 2
Games: 212
Goals: 53
AA: 11
B&F: 06, 09, 11
Premiership captain: 08
Club captain: 08-10
AFL Rising Star: 03

Joel Corey
Games: 249
Goals: 72
AA: 07, 08
B&F: 05, 08
Premiership player: 07, 09, 11

The purpose of this comparison is not to talk down the other two stars (Lenny Hayes and Sam Mitchell), it's more of a 'what about me?' for Joel Corey. The Rising Star is nice and everything, but if Rhys Palmer, Justin Koschitzke, Danyle Pearce and Jared Rivers have one in their trophy cabinets it's not really a great sign of lasting impact on the league. A Norm Smith Medal is obviously huge, but would you rather win a Norm Smith (without winning a premiership), or be a critical, borderline AA/B&F midfielder in three premiership sides? I'd say those three are pretty much neck and neck right now (though admittedly, Hayes and Mitchell probably have the inside track on another B&F this year).

If Smithy had managed to win the Carji last year (he finished a very close runner-up to surprise winner, Corey Enright), would you be able to ignore a 3 x premiership, 3 x B&F player?

He's had a great career and will be remembered as a champion of the club.

I'll always remember him for this...

I'll remember him for that, and the run-down tackle on Aker in the 2004 Prelim.

Congrats on the 250 games Smithy. Hope we have a big win to help him celebrate the milestone.

Thank you for not mentioning 08 (oh wait, now I did).

Yes! I remember that tackle too. We were so close to sneaking into the GF that year.

On Smithy - a sort of favourite of mine over the years, a fourth quarter specialist, great engine, and a magnificent clearance player. Hope he has a great game and even sneaks in a sausage roll for the Cats!

Was interested (but probably not surprised) to hear Lingy say on Friday night that Smithy was probably the bloke he loved playing footy with the most during his time at the Cats.

I'm so glad that the one H & A game I can get down for this year is Joel's milestone match.:)

I'm also delighted to see how he went on Friday night; here's to another massive performance from the great man on Saturday to demonstrate that he's not done yet!

He's come a heck of a long way from when I first saw him running around with the twos at Victoria Park in his first year at the club. Even then his ability to find the football stood out a mile.

Smithy, we salute you.:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

might be a little bias but this guy is the heart and soul of the cats. sure he is slowing down a little but there is no player I feel in the AFL that hates not getting 100% out of his performance. There is also no one in our team that the other players respect more than him. Watch this team play for him this week . Joel you are a champion

I reckon you'll find he also was a member of the 2009 NAB Cup winning side, just to add to this list.

Absolute legend. This bloke slugged his guts out for around 7 years in our midfield before the success came. Still remember seeing Voss smash his shoulder in 2002 I think it was.

A fantastic achievement to get to 250

Absolute superstar who goes about his business quietly.

Played his best game for 2012 last week, hopefully he can keep it up this week and we can get over the line for his 250th.

Smithy - what else can you say. Accolades, awards and medallions of every type and still powering along. Unsung hero of the Geelong era of success who has given his all to the club. Congrats on being an indispensable piston in the engine room of the Cats over the last 10 years. Hopefully he can keep up last weeks effort for the rest of the year and maybe sneak the 300 games in the future..

Go Catters
