I don't understand how he continually flies under the radar. Yet again he had an exceptional game tonight. I was at the game, and for mine, he was best on ground, he continually does the hard stuff.

The K-Rock votes were as follows -
3 - Ablett
2 - Enright
1 - Milburn

The MMM votes were -
3 - Ablett
2 - Bartel
1 - Mackie

How does Corey not feature, again. I feel a bit sorry for him, he's Mr.Consistent and certainly deserves a lot more credit for his efforts.

Yes, agree that he flies under the radar, but when you have players of the talent and profile of Gablett, Chappy, maybe even Kelly and young Selwood, Corey might just be overlooked in a team's estimation. But if a super player flies under the radar, it means Geelong has got one hell of a powerful on-ball division. Ignore him at your peril!!

i was at the game aswell and although he was great particularly early i dont think he was in the top.

for mine i thought that bartel and ablett were the standouts and then after that you had mackie, selwood, chapman, ling, enright, corey and even brad johnson there about for that one vote.

you are right though he does get under the rader. probably just needs to clean up his disposal a little imo.

I've rated Joel Corey for a long time, even when Geelong have been poor in the past, he's always played consistant Football. One of my favourites to watch. Very underrated player amongst non-Cats supporters, it's a shame really. I rate him highly.

Andrew Mackie is doing well this year and was a possible trade to Port at the end of last year. Most Port supporters on here didn't want to know about it but of course they all know more than the club:cool:
What about Matty Stokes who gets no prase buit is a little terrier in and out every week? The Geelong hierachy must see something god in him as he keeps getting a game.
I saw him play some ripper games for the Palmerston Magpies when he was 16 in Darwin and his team mates where the two Davey's.He was better than the both of them.:)

When someone the caliber of Ablett is having the type of year he is having, he's inevitabley gonna get the 3 votes in a game from media vote givers in a game where the top 3 could be decided by the flip of a coin.

Yeah I think you're right with what you're saying. Exactly the same as when Hird, Buckley or Brown played reasonable games in the past, but are not necessarily best on ground, the media always use to give them the top votes.

He turns the ball over far too frequently. His execution by both hand and foot is still a class below the likes of Bartel and Chapman.

For the record I thought Ablett, Bartel, Ling and Mackie were all better tonight.

You're right, that's his one flaw, his disposal. Tonight I know he had one bad kick and one bad handball that didn't reach it's target, and one kick under pressure that went straight to the opposition, but apart from that I thought his disposal was really good tonight.

If his kicking was 10-20% better he would be talked about in the top 10 midfielders in the competition IMHO.

Still he racks up a lot of the ball, basically through sheer hard running. And he gets tagged quite a bit as well, so I think opposition coaches realise what a good player he is, because if you don't man him up, he can rack up doule digit stats in a quarter (14 in the 1st tonight).

I'm pretty sure Thompson, and most astute footy fans know how good he is. Never stops, the last couple of goals were all class.

This is a great point, was one of our best in many ordinary games last year. Week in week out he gets it done.

Joel Corey : he 'flies under the radar' because teams tend not to tag him, his disposal doesn't 'hurt' the opposition like Chapman, Ablett or Bartel's.

JC has racked up big numbers over the past few seasons.
He has a couple of real asset's to his game; he's exceptional in close, manages to get his long arms free and dish off a handball even when under great pressure.
He's also a supremely fit fella, runs every quarter out right to the siren, and is still running hard and getting touches when others are starting to drop off.

He's also pretty handy overhead. I'd rate him as one of the fairest players in the comp, I doubt he's ever been reported ..

But he can be sloppy by foot. His kicking action looks decent enough, and he doesn't really spray 'em, but he tends to mis-judge his distances regularly; dropping the ball at a leading player's feet or lobbing it high over his head.
He's been a pretty ordinary set shot over the journey also.

But a great clubman, consistent, hard-working, fair and a leader by way of example.

Very well said.

I must admit that after the game I came home and watched the replay on Fox, and he didn't look anywhere near as influential than he looked when I was watching it live, strange. It was certainly a hard game for votes, the 3 could have really gone to Ablett, Bartel, Mackie, Milburn, Corey or even Enright.

Champion stats rate him.

Corey has been one of the higher averaging players for a few years no, so has Enright.

Handy Supercoach players.

He has a Cousins-esque ability to run to get to a contest, or run to make space, which is why he racks up so much of the ball. Such a huge work-rate. If he keeps doing this then i dont care if he stuffs up a few kicks.
