Joel Mac - biggest draft bargain?

I was about to mention that.

I am very pleased with him. McGlynn would be the best bargain though given his form. It's hard to include Fev in these comparisons because he's one of, if not the best FFs in the league.

We don't want J-Mac playing on the most dangerous opposition forwards. Burton got the better of him early in that game. He played well on Cloke though but are people still under the illusion that he's any better than Jason? Frankly, I always preferred Jason.

Our defence for many years has lacked quality in the 4th, 5th and 6th defenders. We've tended to have some good defenders like Rivers, Whelan and Brown and now Frawley, Grimes and Warnock but we'd still be exposed to some average player kicking a bag.

At the moment, I rate our defenders in this order:

1) Grimes
2) Frawley
3) Warnock
4) Rivers
5) Bruce
6) MacDonald
7) Garland
8) Bartram

That's pretty darn good and MacDonald is perfect as one of your last picked defenders because he'll provide dash and can stop an opponent as long as he's not a star. I also expect Garland to rise in that list.

Michael Barlow is clearly the best bargain. Rookie walks in to be the number on midfielder in (on current form) a top 4 side.

Garland at number 7, clearly the second best defender in our team besides Grimes. Has played a couple of games since his foot injury sidelined him forever and he is already keeping his opponents to a very little impact if any. I would also put rivers in front of Warnock if fit. Warny just gets way too many goals kicked on him.

I said bargain not best pick up. If for example ablett was picked up with the first 20 picks compared to bartel who was picked up at 21. Ablett was the better pick-up but bartel would be the better bargain...

You are a default, Obviosuly Bradshaw was a better bargain. Had to give up something like pick 6 in the preseason draft to get him and is clearly a better player than J-MAC.
I tell you what, i think it was a bad choice not choosing bradshaw.Clearly would play a more pivotol role in our team and would be more damaging. If he had of played against the pies we would already be 3-1.

If we decided to pick up Bradshaw, then what would have been the point of delisting Robbo. Bradshaw is too old to fit into our plans for the future.

MacDonald is an old fashioned HBF. He's a bit of a tweener and liable to make the odd bad decision and turn it over.

He's a pretty good fit for us right now, but I don't see him as a premiership player.

Handy, but doesn't excite me. There will be better options when we're seriously challenging.

i picked him in supercoach because i thought he would have been the next bowden but not to be

although it looks like he has been working on his defensive skills alot because last year he had practically 0% defending skills

I thought it was pretty accurate.

We're all hoping Garland gets back up and going but its a bit hard to argue a guy whos played 2 quiet games in 18 months is our second best defender right now.

Would of Petterd played the way he did though? I highly doubt it, that is the point of not drafting mature age players, when you are rebuilding as we have, it will affect the development of other players.

I'm going on current ability, considering that he has barely played since 2008. I said that he should rise. Rivers is also not consistently fit, whereas Warnock is.
