Whoever gets him will be getting a bargain for sure, but we have a surplus of his type already. Good player though.

Not really. Harry O does well against the smalls but apart from Heath Shaw (best suited to half back) and maybe Toovey we don't really have another back pocket. Marty Clarke has left, Tarkyn Lockyer and Ben Johnson haven't played in defense for several seasons and no one in the VFL the springs to mind as Blight and Reed are taller back flankers.

We could definitely used MacDonald and would be an upgrade on Toovey/replacement for Clarke.

MacDonald played his best footy as a high flanker ala Shaw, not as a back pocket.

His value comes from running off his man and setting up, not as a shutdown defender.

Joel MacDonald is the last thing our club needs. He wouldn't be in our best 22 for starters and we have an abundance of half-back types who are waiting for their chance.

Anyway this Luke Ball thing is doing my head in. He is a younger version of O'Bree in my books and i wish the hysteria about him would just go away. Pick 30 is what the bloke is worth and nothing more. Surely the club won't bow to St Kilda's demands about a player like Nathan Brown being thrown into a 3 way deal.

Trading week is aimed in trying to improve your list of 46 or whatever. Luke Ball for pick 30 is improving your list, not losing Nathan Brown also as part of the deal.

big call saying he wont make our 22, he is a pretty good footballer is mcdonald
but he isnt a back pocket, he is one half of brisbanes half back flanks, with drummond the other, they play similar roles much like we have shaw and harry

a. If we lost Nathan Brown to get Luke Ball.. who cares? we have stacks of backman..

b. joel mcdonald is better than goldsack and ben johnson, and we could get a developed player for a 4th round pick in a weak draft, and you say he is the last thing we need??

O'Brien Presti Maxwell
Shaw L.Brown McDonald
Thomas Pendlebury Beams
Didak Cloke Fraser
Davis Anthony Medhurst

Rucks: Jolly Swan Ball
INT (from): Sidebottom/Lockyer/Dick/Wellingham/O'Bree/Wood/Goldsack

EMERG: Reid/Dawes/McCarthy/Cook/Stanely

----------------------
what a line up full of ability, toughness, and depth!

NB: if i missed anyone, please inform me!

Yeah i'm all for Joel MacDonald, he averages 18 possies a match and has awesome skills and is a better player than Johnson

I'm more interested in whay we didn't pursue Kennedy, who was basically given to the Swans for nothing.

Serious ability there in my books, only stunted in development by the presence of Mitchell, Sewell, Lewis, Hodge etc.

totally agree with the kennedy call. even mcglynn, who showed a bit towards the end of this season. there was another rumour today that adelaide would give us brent reilly and their second round pick for leon davis. that's another trade i would consider. leon has shown he can do nothing in finals and i'm sorry to say, that's where it counts.
