Roast Joel Selwood - A Cheat?

OK, we may be described as being 1 eyed & I have no issues with that.

But am I wrong / biased, but is Joel Selwood a cheat? He ducks his head & draws the freekick, which should not be awarded.

I wish injury on no one, but the awarding of free kicks to Selwood, is only going to promote injuries.

The decision in the third, with Selwood falling to the ground, when he was tackled by Heath (could have been Johnson) GSS HFF was an outright disgrace.

It's sending a poor message to Juniors IMV & players will lead with their head to attract freekicks. He is a cheat.

its really disappointing because when he came on the scene he was a "hard at it" player, had a lot of respect, and alot of admiration from other groups of supporters.

This comment is absolute bullshit. There is no way he is still not hard at it and he still has lots of respect from the football community.

Why dont you just be happy that Collingwood are playing great footy and be excited about what lies ahead instead of finding bullshit reasons to have a crack at players.

He's hard at it, but he's also a sook at the same time, ducking his head back and dropping his knees as soon as he is touched. He never break tackles like Ablett, he just cops them and plays for a free.

Selwood clearly ducks more often than you would want to see in a player of his ability, and it's a blemish on his game.

That said, he also cleverly forces players to go high by changing direction (through his torso, not dropping the head), which either busts him loose or draws the free.

I've often called Selwood a turtle because he ducks his head more than any oter player I've ever seen.
But the Geelong player that gets me the most is the diver Steve Johnson.
He cost Maxwell weeks last year, he got a free for diving last night and he does it more over the course of a season than what we see in a world cup.

Its not right that people call him a champion, champions don't take dives.

- if initial contact made is low, no free kick should be awarded.
- if player is ducking into a contest, no free kick should be awarded.

Selwood takes advantage of a rule interpretation which he is entitled to do.
Just as Harry'O uses the rules to shepherd the marking player.

Blame the rules committee, even the umps have to follow the rules.

BULLSHIT? Duckwood, has for too long got away with this bullshit. He ducks the head every single contested possesion. He epitimises what's wrong with Soccer, where players dive/play for frees. It ruins the contest and fans are sick of it.

The rules are the rules and the umps have to follow them.

Selwood exploits the rules. No doubt, IMO.

But then, maybe he's just smarter than average, by doing so?

So he's not a cheat, nor could his courage be questioned.

The rules needs to be looked at...however, you have to protect people's heads, so they can't change things too much.

Maybe the rules could be changed so serial 'duckers' like him could be penalised.

It's ugly for oppo fans to see him win all the frees and he's doing his stature in the game no favours at all

Rules for Steve Baker-like taggers need to be tightened right up as well.
