Remember how people said the new stricter interpretation for head high tackles would finish him as a player

Oh how we laughed

An extraordinary performance....what a driven man Selwood is. Already one of Geelong's greats..will be spoken of for decades.

I can only wonder at his pain barrier.
Pain barrier.... only humans have a pain barrier..

when he goes "mad switch on" the humanity leaves him. Thats why others can only marvel...

16 touches to half time too...
Wow he's a player.
43 touches, 22 contested, 9 tackles, 9 clearances, 175 SC points and 18,000 salty Saints.
154 SC points he was ripped off.

Equal highest disposal count and most kicks he's had in his career, so a very productive outing.

Certainly people without pigmented patches on their eyes would have seen that Selwood does not duck . Idiots! The emotional type booing that now comes from him "earning" free kicks ( he is not given anything , he has earned everything)... is generated from that often misinformed , almost libellous criticism from powerful names and voices.

All one need to do is look at where someones face is looking to gauge a duck. A vertical face tying to advance the ball , tying to avoid and shrug tackle is one of the strongest essence of our game. Selwood gets the ball , accelarates on the curve thru the tackle..the ducking rule is irrelevant. I don't not want to someone who bends at the guts , lowering his upper body to induce contact on his head either. Lowering you body is fine.... but in general..are you trying to advance the ball etc. or are you falling into a tackler. SJ used to do that a bit.

Want to tackle Joel , try the hips (idiots)..they will not do that because they fear the ball getting away..they continue to go high , he continues to get frees for head contact which are 99.9% there.. and more often than not plays thru contact and keeps going ..he gets a lot more head high contact that is not a free kick as well because of this audible pressure from the crowd. One yesterday was obviously high , lesser players would have been stupefied by that hit.. he just got up and kept going. Ohh no free kicks for ducking , that will hinder Selwood. Idiots.

I heard on SEN today a debate ... Is Joel the player of the last decade. It would be hard to say he is not worthy of being considered for that title. My point of reference is that our era of success can be defined as the Selwood era ..and while he is playing for us we probably have a better chance of success than the crux of the list would suggest we should be able to have. He is some sort of player ... I thought Budda was good..Joel is just another level again.

I'll say something else: he has the greatest impact on a game by a midfielder I have seen. The effect of his will to win and general play on the team in tough games is amazing.

He stepped up, because he knew Danger was playing injured.

I'm thinking he's the best Geelong player I've seen for the reasons you described. Ablett snr the most talented for sure but Selwood's ability to lift his team when it needs it most is unbelievable.
