John Anthony and Malthouse's massive mistake

He didn't get dropped because he's not in our best 22, he got dropped because he wasn't doing the right things.

Forwards these days need to tackle more than anything. Stopping the ball from coming out is the key to winning games.
Jack/John wasn't doing it there for was dropped, until he plays by the team rules and does he'll be a VFL player.
Mind you Josh Fraser was doing equally little as a forward and kept his spot, whereas JA did nothing but kick his two goals per game and got dropped.

Jack is a long way away from being the player he was in the first half of last year.

Obviously the shoulder injury has effected his fitness. I think it's very wise of the coaching staff to recognize he needs an extended period in the 2's.

He still has a lot to learn about playing up forward also. He doesn't use space very well.

Yep, think it's just you! Jack had a bad PS with the shoulder injury and he is obviously having some problems ATM so he just needs to pick up fitness in the VFL.

Playing in the VFL doesn't mean they aren't in the best 22. Look at Waite for Carlton etc. there are normally very good reasons for best 22 players to be in the VFL for a few weeks.

Just on the subject of Jack Anthony...

Does anybody actually see in Jack a player who was drafted in the mould of Jimmy Clement? This is all we heard before he played a game but I just cannot see him playing defense. Maybe he should be spending a bit of time down back to gain versatility and improve the defensive side of his game...???

The Kid is what 22? wasnt drafted as a forward, gets the best defender each week and has injury concerns at the moment.
He will come good i have no doubt about this and will be a very very good player as he matures a bit more.

Re: John Anthony and Malthouse's/Massive/Mistake

^Agreed. Jack has got the potential, no doubt about that either.

John Anthony

- No longer leads for the ball.
- Gives away 'obvious' free kicks
- Is not the sharp shooter he was 12 months ago
- Does not man up on defensive zones
- Ordinary below his knees
- Kicked 50 goals - 21 against top 8 sides. 16 if you take Essendon out.
- Against Saints, Cats, Dogs 09. Including Finals. 5 games - 3 goals

Since your stating opinions in point form ill have a go.

Was 21 last year.
Got the best defenders in the game.
Still kicked 50 goals
Not a real FF due to size.
Won us a final with a pressure kick.
Needs time like all good forwards.
Might be down on confidence (understandable)

I critisize some players on here from time to time but they are guys who should produce more because there is no excuses, Jack has a lot of credits and upside so ill support him 100%

Fraser is a love child.

As soon as Wood is back to 100% fitness Fraser will be dropped unless he plays a huge one this week.
Remember Fraser used to play a good game every 4 or 5 anyway, he never put to games together and the gap was huge between his best & his worst.
He is not doing anything different now days than what he did in the 10 years he's been at the club.
He'll play 3 or 4 shockers, save himself with a best on ground and then play 3 or 4 shockers.

I love Jack, but the team would have team rules on field and every player must follow them, Jack wasn't and was dropped, now he has to work his way back into the side by showing the club he's willing to work on those things.

If Fraser is a love child as you say, what makes you think he'll be dropped for Wood as soon as Wood is 100% fit?

The two assertions seem contradictory.

its never too early to start the "to be traded" list..... josh, jack....leroy of course ..... bally? yes of course

i think I heard calls for Reid to go...and Nathan Brown has been too slow in getting back to form...trade him..

and Goldsack of course, he was halfway out the door so we should set up a deal

7 players... not really enough but the season is still young...

Whats the title of this thread again:

John Anthony and Malthouse's massive mistake

A more apt title would have been:

Code:
Shane O'Bree and Malthouse's massive mistake.

When is Maltmoose going to wake and smell the roses.

O'Bree is useless in the midfield and anywhere else. Unless of course we need somebody to poke holes in the air.

LOL

While all the attention has been on the Jack side of things perhaps Micks massive mistake is he doesnt come here for advice............

Things would be so much better for the team if he did dont you think.....
