It's not easy to find a player that can take contested marks and kick truly on a regular basis in todays footy (and be consistently effective), but the Pies look like they might have found one here. I rated him as a defender when I cast my eye over him at Willy, but he looks like he's an even better forward.

An old school footballer if ever there was one and its great to see :thumbsu:

He's no oil painting, that's for sure.

He's kicking plenty of goals which is great and it's what he's there to do but for some reason I've got reservations on him. It mihgt be because he looks a little unco, but then again so did Carey.

I just feel like Pie fans are prone to saying that a player is going to be the next big thing. Seems to happen a lot. Often it's a fair way off the mark: Sav Rocca (great player but was dumped by the club) and Chris Tarrant are two that spring to mind. Also, you can add Cloke to that list if he has another year like 2008, but hopefully he gets a bit of support this year and doesn't need to deal with 3 defenders all game.

Cloke, Anthony, Med, Didak, Davis.
very nice forward line.
key will be how big jack stands up in the real season, but from day one against the tigers last year i have liked this kid. no nonsense old school forward. about time the pies had a second tall target.
spine is looking nice
N.Brown-Harry O-Swan-Cloke-Anthony.

Wasn't exactly facing the A-team of defenders last night.

I guess the beauty of the situation is that when all our boys are up and running he's probably only going to get the third (or even fourth) best defender on any given day.

Opposition coaches have to concern themselves with Cloke, Rocca and Medhurst before they even consider a match up for Jack.

Maths, and spelling, seemingly not your strong points.

Cameron Ling has kicked 43.11 over the last two seasons and hasn't missed a set shot since round 7, 2006.

Anthony looked very good last night. Will be interesting to see how he plays against a 3 time AA player next week though, assuming the inevitable happens tonight and Geelong win.

It's actually 4. ;)

On Anthony though, he does look the goods and I suspect we will be seeing alot more of that performance in the season proper.

I reckon Collingwood are gonna be massive shot at the flag this year.

I love how its always the Geelong or Hawthorn people coming into these threads mentioning someone from their own team in comparison. And we just got the double whammy!

Very uncomplicated player..still needs to add a few strings to his bow but I reckon we started to see some tonight when he took some strong contested grabs that weren't your regulation lead and mark.

I'll reserve judgement till he does it in the real stuff. Just as I'll reserve judgement on Paddy Ryder who is becoming a pretty average one-on-one defender

I will soon put this chap in my Super coach AND Dream team teams.

He absolutely pantsed the 'New Age' tall in Patrick Ryder, so it's hard to take your opinion seriously.
Not quite right at all, played on Anthony for a couple of plays but predominantly Daniher and Hurley played on him.

Suprise Suprise - another KP kicks a bag against Essendon.

If its not Brown, its Buddy.

If its not Buddy, its Fev.

And now you can add Anthony to that list.

Forget the Top 8 Bombres supporters, get some defenders or you will go nowhere!

I just watched the reply again and Ryder is the one chasing his tail up until he copped a knock in the third and went off (leaked 4/7). If Daniher was suppsed to be minding him then he was doing a shit job.

Hurley played on him after that.

Eitherway, I'm not having a dig at any of them; just highlighting John the Don's poorly supported opinion that Jack Anthony is too old fashioned for the modern game. He'll be just fine!

I was impressed by the way he covered ground to get open. Great set of hands and, as mentioned, nice kick for goal. Collingwood needed another tall to complement Cloke and they just might have found one.
