Its funny how it takes a 7 goal performance for people to notice him. He was very good for his age last year. Lets not forget the career threatening neck injury he had in his first year aswell.

collingwood have the flag in the bag for 2009

unbeatable team best forwardline and midfield since lions 2003.

geelong dont kmow how to beat em who else can get close seriously???

NO ONE.

collingwood 2009 FLAG get used to it people.

Stunning kick for goal.

Not sure he is going to get it as easy as last night though again, Hurley and Daniher are very raw, under done players.

Most of his goals were on Ryder. Who is he going to get once Rocca, Rusling/Dawes, Medhurst are back aswell as Cloke, Leon? Im guessing Atleast the 3rd or 4th best backman. Not many 3rd or 4th backman will be able to contain him.

It will be interesting to see how Anthony plays when Collingwood aren't taking the ball out of the middle like it's a training drill and without any pressure.

Good young forward though.
Period of time has nothing to do with it. He is the best kick for goal I've seen since Nick Davis.
Best kick for goal in the AFL.
Have you seen Fevola or anyone who isn't on Collingwood's list play footy?

Fev has plenty of tricks up his sleeve and kicks like a half forward.

Freakish snap for goal and power.

I really like Fevola's kicking action. It's a pity Carlton are resting him and Judd tonight. Carlton v Geelong would have been a pearler with these two playing. I feel John Anthony can only get better and as others have pointed out he will usually get the 3rd or 4th best defender. Hoping for a good game tonight.

Incorrect.

He kicked 4 on Hurley and only one or two on Ryder. The rest were on Daniher from memory.

He kicked 7 goals on a team that had complete rookies in the midfield (aside from Hille and stanton) and which got rebounded on constantly, often leaving defenders our of position and had no chance. I doubt he will be about to emulate this form in a home and away match, or against a full strength team.

He kicked most of his goals on Paddy Ryder.

No, he did not.

Anthony is a decent player but i wouldn't be overly getting excited over his game last night. We turned it over a lot which resulted in us getting caught out on the rebound, and you'd expect him to beat the likes of Daniher and Hurley when he has got the space to lead in to.

So why won't that happen in the future too?

He's a very promising player for us.

Of the 25.6 he kicked last year, probably half were from crumbs, chase tackle (hold the ball free) or general play.

Far from a one trick pony.

Best kick in the game is Fevola, FWIW.

John "Jack" Anthony... how many first names does this guy want?
(I know, I know... sore loser)

I have to admit he was pretty good at getting into best possie against his opponents. They were mainly young guys but if he is Collingwood's third option up forward (as many of the above pie supporters have claimed) he'll probably get to play on a few young defenders.

Not sure he's really a good dream team pick though. He's not going to kick 7 every week and i didn't see him do much besides lead and kick for goal.

Good Grief!! I thought that's what a full forward is supposed to do.

From my point of view, I'd be happy if we had a full forward who would lead and kick seven goals, wouldn't you? :(

Reminds me of John Barker. Will be a solid 3rd option for the Pies this year.
Which is excatly what his role should be, lead up, mark, kick, goal.

Chase and tackle when needed

Very much so. But that's not what i was saying.

I meant from a dream team point of view he didn't pick up many possession besides shots on goal. Good in the real world, but for dream team the best forwards are players like Riewoldt, Richo, Harvey and Goodwin. Players who rack up the points when they're not kicking goals.

Wasn't calling him a bad player, just not a good dream team pick at this stage.

Sorry, I don't follow the dream team comp - my bad :(

In a word, Hawthorn. If the Pies can work out how to get around Hawthorn, then we're a definite chance. Unfortunately, the No. 1 quality you need to stop Hawthorn is accurate disposal, and that's let us down in the past, esp when we needed it most.
