No-one is saying that the contract is awesome Kev.
It is more about taking a player, even though he has complicitly expressed his desire to play elsewhere.
Especially someone like Anthony.
I only really threw that qualifier in there so that nobody would try and bring up the misinformed and fatuous "we have more cap space, front ended contract rah rah rah" misinformed argument/pissing contest.
I know what you're saying and in theory, you're right. But there's no coercion behind this gentlemanly convention. It's basically just good manners to put a player's wishes above what your club wants. We all know that the pre-season drafted is intended nowadays as a restricted form of free-agency and we all hope that deep in the bowels of AFL House, Vlad and his pet snake Anderson encourage clubs to observe this. But there's two clubs who have deliberately put themselves into a position where they have the power to break ranks and there's no good explanation for why else they would have done it. If the Meter Maids and Hird's mob didn't want to make a play for one of the uncontracted players, why wouldn't they have just taken another swing in the national draft?
I'm not so worried about the Bombers, like Dolphin said, they're probably after Bruce anyway. But the Gold Coast... they're a different beast. Vlad wants them to win games and win them straight away. He's already shown that he doesn't give a stuff whose toes he has to tread on to give them that chance. Do you think he's got the intestinal fortitude to try and talk them out of it for the sake of the player's wishes? Do you see the Gold Coast playing nice when they could sure as hell use a young key forward with a big body and a sprinkling of experience at the elite level?
Just saying, I don't trust any of the relevant parties in this transaction.
And you better have read my fine literary work this time ya grumpy old bugger. None of this too long business...

), but I am supremely confident that JA will slide to us.
I've got it.
