John Anthony

Anthony and Fraser have hardly set the world on fire in a few games they've played last season but you're right, Jack will be of value to teams that are light on forward line options.
Can't agree with you on Davis though, he will be fighting Dick and Rounds for a spot next year.

That's if Dick can manage to stay on the park. Anthony and Fraser weren't world-beaters last season, but they represented far better depth than most other sides had. How many teams had a better ruck than Fraser in their VFL lineups?

Collingwood supporters should be concerned. In 2007 Geelong won the VFL and AFL premierships and had embarrassing depth. Over the next 3 years the club lost a stack of players to other teams - King, Davenport, Prismall, Nathan Ablett, Scott Thompson, Tim Callan, Brodie Moles, Shane Mumford, Playfair... There were probably more. In most cases, fringe players sought an opportunity elsewhere, or Geelong had to offload them. N. Ablett was an exception.

So? No one has ever doubted the quality of their list, but the loss of those players who were firstly seen as depth actually has bigger ramifications as most of them should have been the next gen of players to come through as the older hands give way.

As for Wood, so far he's shown a few good signs, but nothing to say that he will be a top line first ruckman.

Depth is only of value if you rely on using it, we didn't.

Yep, Collingwood didn't use their depth and made no unforced changes through the entire year...

To be honest we didnt have many injuries throughout the year and that did play some part in our success, just like it does for most premiers. Managing to keep the best team on the park each week is vital for success.

Let me simplify it for you- the moment we've decided to banish Fraser to VFL and to go with one main ruck in Jolly and replace Anthony with a great forward line pressure player in Blair our performances have improved dramatically.

Yes, and as Zeke pointed out, the test is how a side deals with its list management that determines its greatness. Premierships don't grow on trees. The Pies will be the hunted in 2011, and as Geelong & Hawthorn found out, every other team tries to find the way to beaat the reigning premiers at their game.

Premierships, premierships only, sad but true.

Love comments like this. How many times have you seen him out? Once? Now, how many times did you go out when you were JA's age in a year, get a bit ahead of yourself and act like a clown (bearing in mind that he earns about five times more than what people ten years older than him are clearing)? For me, it would be somewhere between 20-30 times a year. And that's without people coming up to me all night and treating me like king d**k as he would regularly get.

I've never had any interaction with JA, just love it when people make these sweeping comments about someone's character, based on seeing them once at a nightclub.

Ha I see him just about every weekend (that's not an exaggeration) and no one treats him like king dick because as a bloke he's not even worth that. he's from my area so I know whats he's like, its not a one off thing.

If you know about what happened at Licuria's wedding well that just sums him up

What happened, sounds interesting.....

The story goes something like Anthony wasn't invited to Licuria's wedding (which hardly seems surprising as they would have spent about one year on the list together). So, the ceremony is about to start and Anthony walks in to the church in his Collingwood training gear, runs up to the alter and shakes a stunned Licuria's hand, then runs off.

pretty much along those lines....

ROFL.

Hilarious. What an absolute w***er but sometimes thats exactly what a club needs.

Leon Davis would have got a game for every other side last season, omitting him is something Collingwood probably won't have the luxury of any longer.
Leon Davis is behind both Andrew Krakouer and Brad Dick who are two players that didn't play in the premiership team.
I think Anthony may not be a big loss to Collingwood, but could be a major plus for someone who leaves him at FF for a season.
I've heard that Collingwood is now keen on Ryan Gamble now that John Anthony is gone, and he is a better player for depth if they get him. Anthony appeared to be a player that thinks he is better than he actually is. He was a good kick for goal until that started to fall away late in 2009, and he doesn't get the ball enough, and he goes to ground too often.

Collingwood are always hunted so that isn't going to change.

Geelong beat themselves in 2008, and they should have won that premiership. This 2010 Collingwood team is better than the 2008 Hawthorn team, and they lost a number of premiership players such as Crawford, Croad, Dew and Campbell that they still haven't been able to replace. Collingwood hasn't lost any premiership players though.

Hawthorn 08 were better than Collingwood last year. They won the Grand Final easily at first time of asking for one thing. That is a pretty definitive way to judge it.

Wrong thread maybe, or even wrong board?

Your wrong btw, but hey, its your opinion :thumbsu:
