Good input and I think my OP probably unfair to the intangibles and good bloke that he is.

The criticism remains that as a line coach and assistant coach, he doesn't get results.

Many people can be very educated (cert 4) without being good at their job. To be a good line coach, you probably don't need all the other stuff. Similar to the PH.D working at a private sector job and realising his knowledge doesn't make him any better (and sometimes worse) than the others who are actually good at what they do.
What do you mean he doesn't get results?
Please state succinctly each of the so called results that, under his watch, were available to be got which he failed to get.
As Leigh Matthews often says a coach is only as good as his cattle.
We have a poor forward line.
He is not a miracle worker!
I suppose you hold him personally responsible for the failed set shots at goal by Casboult and Silvaggni in the last quarter yesterday?!!!

Barker has been around the longest so we have more of a sample.

Mind you I've never been a fan of Capuano either.

Warnock and Hampson went backwards under his tutelage and all the others but Kreuzer are not AFL standard IMO.
And Kreuzers actual tap work is his weakness.

On the op, I remember st different points people on here referring to barkers line as being down once he takes over. Tried to do some research when the GCS rumour came up but couldn't fine any mention of who coached which lines in different years.

I think he is well liked and a good communicator and team man. Hopefully his line improves as our players get more experience.

We won the stoppages yesterday.

Dude, you're so confused. Thats not even his line anymore. Read the thread before speaking, will make you look less clueless.

I'm not confused. You said that "the criticism remains ...that he does not get results".
Do you deny you said that?
If not please answer my original question.
While you are at you might enlighten us as to why you are a better judge of his ability than the Board, the CEO and Bolts because he has just been re-signed for two years!

You are confused.

You thought that Barker is our forwardline coach. Do you deny that? What word do you prefer to confused; mistaken? Wrong? Lost?

The answer to your question has already been pointed out by multiple posters in this thread who are much more knowledgeable than me.

As I said before, please read through the thread.

Its a credit to JB that we were able to dominate the clearances yesterday. A dominant ruck certainly helps, but to get SPS involved the way he has is fantastic. Cripps going down has enabled us to really see who can stand up . The little fella from halls creek is a sensation
Agreed. Credit where credit is due. Hope the silver lining with Cripps out is that we find others who can win the ball.

Its also shown that Graham cant do that role (sad but true)

I thought nothing of the kind.

My original post was in response to your statement that "the criticism remains" etc.

Were you stating or endorsing that criticism or merely reciting what you understand the criticism to be?

I have interpreted your post as an endorsement of that criticism.

If it wasn't an endorsement why did you bother repeating it?

You said Barker shouldnt be blamed for our forwardline because the cattle is not there and he cant help that they miss shots etc.

Be a big enough person to admit youre wrong when someone calls you out on it.

Why was that statement wrong? He is plainly not responsible for the fact that Silvaggni and Casboult are crap kicks for goal from set shots!

Anyway you persist in refusing to answer my question.

I infer that you were making that criticism of him and that you are unable to substantiate it.

...
In saying that Barker is a shit line-coach, it is also implying that 3 AFL clubs (maybe, a fourth one soon) have shit selection processes when choosing their coaches.
Many clubs have sh*t selection processes to select their coaches.
There was no process for Malthouse or Pagan. How many clubs have sacked a coach and had to pay him out? We had Malthouse, there was McCartney at Bulldogs and Sanderson at Crows ...
Then there's the coach who has not coached before ... Hird, Voss, Buckley, Tim Watson ...
We finally followed a process when Bolton was appointed. We had a Panel, I think Judd and Ange Post were on it, some others too. Must not go back to whoever the president thinks is the best coach.

Agreed & kudos to John Barker for getting a further 2 year contract. He must be doing a lot of things right.
