I was very impressed with what I saw tonight from him.

I had heard rumblings in the pre-season to forget the Maric V Meesen and Griffin was the one to watch out for this year.

Tonight he showed he has the mobility, good hands and decent kick which are good qualities for a big man to have. The ruck skills will come in time, but I think we might have unearthed a player of the future with this kid.

Dude you had almost your A grade side out there.

I wouldnt even call our side a shadow of our A grade side

No Roo, Goody, Stiffy, Burton, McGregor, Perrie, Massie, Van Berlo.

If Port didnt get a run on in that game I would have been worried. Besides Tredrea you just about had you full side out there, so I think one of the main reasons for Port's run on had to do with the quality difference between the sides out there.

Great Man II was out there tonight dude....:)

The Great Man doesnt really want to display all he has in the NABBY Cup......

Back to Griffin, I thought he was very good last night. I was watching with a friend who is a fair netballer and even she got excited by those intercepts..... we have a new cult hero on our hands. The number 6 has gonethrough some tough times of late, but we may have seen a new beginning for it.

Our rucks need to work on their taps, definitely beaten there. Certainly more than held their own in their work around the ground.

Taps and centre clearances will be better once we get the experience back in the centre square. At one stage Griff, VB, Knights and Dougie were there!

He looked good up foward in the first quarter. This is the first time I've really taken much notice of the new recruits, because until theyre on the park playing its not really telling us a lot. The young guys did ok IMO. Good replacemt for Trent up foward this year. 2008 will be good with those two. :thumbsu:

I thought both he and McIntrye showed some pretty postive signs. I was also impressed with Pfeiffer. He didn't do much, but there's something about this kid.

Griffen performance was the most encouraging aspect of tonights game. Appears to have a good motor on him, as would have played most of the game. Good set of hands & good skills for someone 2m+.

If anything, when he went into ruck, we missed his presence up forward.
From reports etc why not play Maric and Griffin? Griffin up forward and Maric in the centre with Hudson

That extra tall would create a headache surely?

Because it's not like the oppisistion Ruckmen aren't one of the top 2 combos in the year. Apart from Cox/Seaby and maybe Jolly/Everitt you won't play against too many better combos then Lade/Brogan.

Gee, I feel Meese has been given a rough run on BF. He played a few minutes, got a short term injury and people seem to have written him off cos Griffin slotted a couple goals.

Meesen will be the 2nd ruckman for the AFC by 2008, easily. 2007 will be a tight contest, but Meese will win out.

Its a fickle supporter syndrome ;)

I am comfortable in saying that Meesen would be the most talented of our ruckman but he also appears to be the one thats most tentitive.

I am afraid that Meesen might well be at another club next year and fulfill his potential somewhere else. At his current value, he wouldn't be worth much at the open market but anyone that does pick him up can potentially pick up a huge bargain

With Hudson, Biglands, Maric, Griffin and Tippett on the list, Meesen might want to look elsewhere for his opportunities. It wouldn't surprise me.

I tend to agree that Meesen is being judged quite harshly at the mo on BF. No doubt we all have high expectations, but we really haven’t had enough to judge by yet. If he had been wearing a Crows uniform at the Parade/ and hadn’t got injured straight away vs. Port it may have been a different story. I’m just saying the season hasn’t even begun and already the pessimism is coming through. Lets waiting a little while longer before writing him off. I for one think the battle for the 2nd ruck spot will bring out the best in our 3 young rucks, and I cant wait to see what that will produce by the final third of the season.

On Griffin:

Yes very happy indeed. Some people seem to be placing too much emphasis on his early goals. The key thing for me was his mobility around the ground. And is it just me or did he look much better at getting the ball off the ground against Port than he did the previous week.

No-one has ever questioned Griffins skills ...just have to watch a training session to see his mobility, leap and ground skills.

The question has been where is his role at AFL level and looking at that you had to conclude that unless he could put weight on this very talented youngster may be lost.

In the two years of solid attempt to put that weight on we are still left with a player that is pushed around.

Was his game on Friday surprising ...NO ... do the same question marks exist ...YES

I haven't seen enough of Meeson to say that the dreaded AFC high draft pick syndrome has struck again. Too early to call IMO.
very true.

coz was drafted in 2000 and didnt really start to show things until 04/05 which really means meesen should start to be getting games next year and then hitting his peak in 09.

we are rushing him into the game more than anything.

I think Terry Wallace said last year that ruckman don’t start showing much until their 4th AFL season.

That’s a good call however I don’t think we can afford Meesen playing with the Legs for another year because if that’s the case he’ll be in Victoria next year.

I believe it's Craigy's policy not to play three ruckmen.

We had to do it this time due to lack of match play from the two youngsters and Huddos' return. That's what the local rag said to have quoted.

But I agree with your logic.

While I agree with the policy that you have to earn your spot in the AFC side, I agree that we need to play him this year to see if he has it.

We must keep him as I believe he will come good. Honestly think our rucking stocks will be our strength in the years to come.

This is all very well.....up until now Meesen has had a case for possibly being overlooked or pushed out because of Clarke and Biglands.

Now he will only have injuries or form to blame as there is clearly a spot up for grabs.....

......I'm starting to think that if he can't stay sound and break into a side with a gaping hole in the ruck as a #5 pick ND pick in front of a guy who weights 4 lb 5 oz dripping wet and another who has being playing the game for 5 minutes........then.........meh....
